having problems finding a load for a factory rem 700 300 RUM with 26" barrel. Leupold vx3 3.5-10x40 with leupold mounts All I am trying to find is something less than1 moa. I have shot two factory loads. One was a Barnes I think 180g tsx that shot 1.5" @ 100 and a Remington core lock level one that was sub moa but a reduced load.

Here are the reloads I have tried, all between 1.5-3" at 100 yards

All with Remington brass, loaded to book col and fed gm215m primers

190g sierra match king Rl 25 @ 89, 90, 91, 92g

185g Berger vld hunting H1000 @ 89,90, 91g

168g nosler ablr. H1000 @ 95, 96, 97g

150g Hornady btsp. Imr 7828 @ 92, 93, 94g

165g sierra match king Imr 7828 @ 87, 88, 89g

165g Barnes tsx. Imr 7828 @ 87, 88, 89g

185 Berger classic hunter Imr 7828 @ 86, 87, 88g

Any ideas where to go? I just scrubbed the barrel down again so I've got a clean slate to start with.

I would make sure the action is not moving in the stock and that the scope it not moving in the rings. I would bed the action to the stock, if possible. It is just good to eliminate all of this crap or your could end up chasing you tail.

How is the recoil? 300 RUMs can be kinda stiff on recoil. Does it have a brake? Reason Im asking is, maybe the reduced loads shot better just because they had less recoil and help you shoot better. My RUM has a break.

Might want to try a heavier bullet. Like a 200 Gr. Accubond or 210 Berger VLD under about 87 grains of the H1000 in the RM brass. Thats what I run. It's is a bit slow but accurate. It runs about the speed of a hot 300 WM. The H1000 has an accuracy reputation in the 300 RUM.

I'm not going to say that Retumbo will fix your problem, because I know a lot of people use some of the powders that You've tried and get great results.

But Retumbo has been the best in both of the 300 RUM's that I've had, one with a factory barrel and one a Krieger.

Definitely bed your action and make sure rings are good, like Barrelnut said. Even my worst bed job gives me some confidence that I'm really able to crank the action down into something and not have it move.

Now, your loads development seems a little all over the place. Smaller steps would be your best game plan, there is a lot going on between 1 grain increments that you might not be seeing, some people have developed very tolerant loads that have huge nodes in the 1 grain size, but most of my loads have only been about a half grain node at best.

Also how far off the lands have you been seating all these different bullets?

Pillar bed the as action, try retumbo and 210gr Hunter VLD'S with bergers max load. Shot sub moa with them. My buddy shot sob moa with his 300rum and AB, retumbo and fed 215 primers and I think he was under max load with them. The rums like retumbo.

Make sure all of your mounts are tight to spec with a torque driver like a Fat Wrench. Get some of our 181g Hammer Hunters and load them up just as you are. If you can't get sub moa we will refund your money. We have lots of load data for the factory rum's that we would be happy to share with you. Unless there is something wrong with your rifle/scope combo we should have you dialed in and ready to hunt in under 20 rounds.

It doesn't get any easier than this. ( Unless you send him your rifle)

We had one factory Sendero that we had to bed before it would shoot. That is the only rifle that we have had to alter to get sub moa. We did have a factory Winchester in .308win that had a bottom metal situation that was pushing on the action that we had to shim, then things shot well. So it is possible that it is the set up, but I am pretty confident that it will shoot as it is.

Are your bullets all copper?

Thanks for all of your help, recoil has never been an issue before, I shoot my 300 wsm 2" @ 600 regularly with a bipod and 50bmg 6" or less at 600 with factory 750 amax.

When I get home Sunday I will pull the stock and reinstall it.ill pull the scope also and double check everything with the fat wrench.

What is the correct specs for the action screws for a wood stock Remington 700?

Steve, I'll order a box of yours today or tomorrow and give them a shot. Will the load data come in with the bullets? This is the one you are talking about correct? https://hammerbullets.com/product/308-cal-181g-hammer-hunter/

The powders I have that work with 300 rum are:
H1000
Retumbo
Imr 7828
Rl-25
H-4831

Thanks for all the help

Abolt, here's some torque recommendations from one of the smiths who contributes a lot of good info on the forum:
https://www.longrangehunting.com/threads/torque-recomendations.29756/

Personally I think that the fact it is a wood stock on the RUM says a lot. Even though the wood stock may have pillars installed, I feel the recoil lug should be bedded on heavy recoiling rifles with wood stocks. The recoil lug is the main component that distributes the recoil into the stock and if it is no solid (and I mean solid) up against the stock it can allow the action to torques and move in the stock. It can definitely open a 1" group up to 1.5". I think you should bed the action and recoil lug and make sure the stock has pillars for the action screw. I just recently bedded a wood stocked Savage in 6.5 Creedmoor. I torqued the action screws down to 65 inch pounds. The rifle will now shoot 1/4 MOA groups at 200 yards when I am on my game. It was about a 3/4 MOA rifle before I bedded it and had the action screws at 40 inch pounds.

Yes that is the bullet. I'll pm you our load work up with h1000 and the same bullet.
