Hello all....
I've used you guys for years when doing research, but never been apart of this or any forum before so this is all new to me lol. The knowledge here is incredible, and I'm excited to be apart of the group.
I'm 35 and live in the western IL, my knowladge for whitetails and archery is 10 fold to my western hunting, and long range shooting.
I'm green as grass, but here to learn. I'd love to someday punch paper or shoot steal out to maybe that 800 or 1000 yrd range, and get into reloading. But my main goal is to just be more efficient and stretch my hunting range. I've got a Savage LRH 300 min mag that shoots pretty good with stock ammo. I'm getting some new glass anyday Leupold VX-5HD 3-15x44mm is my plan, I just can't decide between the firedot or boone and crockett radical. With a Mule deer hunt coming up this fall it's time to get shooting!

Hope everyone is well!

Welcome to the forum! I'm not familiar with that reticle so I can't help. I like to at least have some calibrated marks on the horizontal reticle to use for wind correction.

I've gotta get my hunting rifle out and start practicing for a cow elk hunt this fall.

Thanks! That's how I feel as well, my last few have been a BDC type redical. That's why I'm leaning towards the boone and crockett, it has longer horizontal marks that provide a 10mph wind holds. I love the idea of a fire dot, but for what I want something without vertical amd horizontals would be a mistake.

Nice,
I no the feeling, it will be here before you know it!

Welcome to the forum! Where in western IL are you from? I grew up in that area and have shot my fair share of IL white-tailed deer and plenty of IL ducks!

Thank you! I'm from Wisconsin, but live in the Quincy area, been here about 5 yrs.
Oh nice.... Where abouts? I do most of my hunting in IA and MO, just haven't found the right land out here.

Bartonville (outside of Peoria), and it's definitely a chore to find private or public land in IL unless your are in southern IL. I used to help out farmers with hay a few times a year and they would let me hunt.

Welcome to the forum!

I have the 3-15x56 firedot. It's awesome! I wasn't a fan of the Boone and Crocket reticle when I looked thru it. It's very invasive. My other lit reticle light up like a Christmas tree. I vastly prefer the firedot.

Yes no doubt... The pressure and price for leases are just so high. That's the way too do it, goes alot farther than money sometimes.

No kidding!!?? You like it that much huh?
I was thinking the boone and crockett would be a better fit because my vortex BDC is just to fine for me at low light. And some guys swear it's the perfect big game redical. I probably should go with the firedot, and anything over 300yrds and just adjust my scope instead of using the other marks on the BC.
I haven't got to look though either, it's about 2.5 drive to someone that has them in stock. And I'm laid up with back surgery so I was going to order sight unseen from someone with a good rerurn policy. Thanks for the info!
