Hi,I have a Savage model 111 chambered in 30:06 that I want to give to my grandson and feel that it will have too much recoil for him and am looking to buy a barrel in 25:06, or .270 Winchester, thank you. Archie--813-918-8775

I've got a 6.5 creedmoor factory barrel it's a heavy barrel tho. Only100 rounds through it. I'm thinking of getting an xcaliber that's threaded or prs

Archie,

If you reload, you can load down safely to a more manageable felt recoil for your grandson. Felt recoil varies from shooter to shooter and depends on factors like bullet weight, velocity, powder change, rifle weight, etc. Try this recoil calculator for comparative analysis between a .30-06 and your choices >>> http://handloads.com/calc/recoil.asp. There are also managed recoil loaded ammo out there, https://www.remington.com/ammunition/centerfire-rifle/managed-recoil

It's not for everybody but a muzzle device (brake or suppressor) is the best recoil/muzzle rise reducer and plenty of effective design choices at reasonable prices (~$50 and up). There are also clamp on muzzle brake/muzzle rise eliminator options such as from https://www.wittmachine.net/clamp-on-brakes/

Not the best video but the effect is as real as they come :D ...

If any of the above does not work for you/grandson, I have a used .270 Win 22" barrel (don't know the actual round count) off a Savage 110 just laying around. It shot well within 1 MOA at 200 yards with factory ammo. Pay for shipping (not sure of shipping cost though) and it's yours.

Cheers!
