I made the switch to BH 209. I'm having serious trouble with blowback in the primer , breech plug. The primer is solid black and I have to pull it out with pliers. I'm shooting a CVA Accura MR , 110 gr powder , Barnes T ez , and Federal 209 A primers ( witch BH recommend ) . Also bought the new BH CVA breech plug . I assume switching primers wI'll fix this problem? Going to try to find some CCI and Winchester.

You can try the CCI209M primer, or the WIN209 primer which is the longest of the primers. One other method is to shim out the firing pin to get more crush on the primer. Check with CVA about the blow back problems. I think they have shim kits they'll send you.

interesting. I was getting stuck primers after switching to BH209 as well but not after just one shot so I simply shoot and then swab the primer hole after each shot. seems to work. I never heard of these shims...where do they go?

I'm not a CVA shooter, that said, its my understanding that they go behind the firing pin.

I am not a mzldr expert...but I believe the shim for the CVA is an o-ring placed in front of the primer....
If you look on the modernmuzzleloader site they have sticky's for simple things like that...and of course if you search the forum there it is bound to pop up....

Actually, the guys on M-M were the ones that started the "O" ring. If you check with some of those guys, they'll tell you also how to shim.

I have two knight Ultralites....both shimmed with metal shims...
I know a lot of the guys talk about the orings for cvas...dont recall if any used the metal shims in cvas....

I experienced similar problems with my Knight Disc Extremes when I installed their bare primer breech plugs and used heavy loads of BH209. At the time I was using CCI 209M primers. Switching to the regular Winchester 209 Primers (not the ones made for Muzzleloaders) helped but did not eliminate the problem. I used the info from the Modern Muzzleloader blog and ordered the stainless steel shims and installed them as directed. That has solved the problem. My total cost was about $25. There are several very competent folks that can do the job for you as well. The shims are installed in the primer pocket on the Knights. Not familiar with other makes.
