I am sure this topic has been spoken about before, but I am looking to get some feed back as to what the best grain bullet to use in a 300 RUM would be.

Shooting a factory Rem 700 with a 26" sporter barrel. Nothing fancy at all. Have shot factory Nosler 180 Accubonds through it to site in and shoots them okay. But I feel that hand loading will just allow the accuracy to be that much better. Just not sure if I should look to shoot a heavier bullet.

Lots of opinions out there on this round.

Thank you!

How far you looking to shoot, I use 180 berger Elite hunters great bullet but I primarily hunt with it in NC...500 yards and less...I like heavier out west 210 VLD

Sporter barrel and factory setup, so guessing this is a dedicated hunting rifle? Is the 1:10" twist assumption correct also? If yes to both, I'd start with hunting bullets and cull the options from there. What will you be hunting, and at what distances? You already have some pretty decent Nosler brass from those factory loads you shot, assuming you saved the brass. I have never shot a 300 RUM, but I really like the 180 grain Accubonds in my 300 Winchester Magnum. The factory 300wm Nosler Trophy Grade ammo for the 180 cost roughly $3+ per round, but using Nosler brass and those 180ABs I'm able to handload with more velocity and tighter groups for around $1/round, and there's not much in North America I wouldn't be able to hunt with those loads at the distances I hunt (typically less than 500 yards, but one day I'll get to stretch it out). If I were to hunt further out, I would consider a heavier bullet, because why not?

gun has a factory sporter barrel, so I am assuming that it is a 10 twist. Thank you all for the info, I think I will get some 190+ and 200+ rounds to try out.
