Hey everyone,

Getting very close to finally getting another long range rig after selling my Remington 5R in 300 WM 4 years ago. I've been looking at the PT&G Extreme combo....basically a trued 700 action with a custom fit PT&G bolt. My estimated build price with a Pac Nor barrel and McMillan A3 was right around $2000. I've since come across the CA Mesa LR rifle that comes in 300 WM. It looks like a solid rifle that is pretty close to my build specs, except that it's a medium palma vs a Sendero contour barrel, and not a McMillan stock....obvioudly something I could switch out if I wanted.

Bottom line, with a sub moa guarantee, the fact that I am moving to Hill AFB in Utah and will be a few hours from Christensen Arms, no production time, and a seemingly good reputation....is there anywhere I can really go wrong with the Christensen? My goal is long range steel and some longer range big game once I prove myself on targets. Dead set on the 300 WM so no argument there.

Any input is always appreciated.

Thanks,
Tucker

I did the same thing as you. I got a Remington 700 LA with a PTG bolt in .338 Lapua and did a build off of it. It's got a shilen select match M40 contour in a manners stock. My Smith still has it and is doing load development. It's obviously not as light as the Christensen but same build idea. It came to about $2100 with parts and labor.

You would be comparing apples to apples honestly. Unless you have an awesome Smith, that has a quick turn around time, I don't see any reason not to just get the "stock" Christensen Arms Rifle. I have a Rem 700 .243 with the same HS stock and it's really comfortable. That's if CA is still using HS or if they moved to their own carbon fiber style.

My buddy has a PRS rifle in 6.5 creed with a CA carbon fiber barrel and it shoots .25 inch groups at 100 yards. He's made hits during a match at 1300 yards. He loves the barrel.

Is the MSRP still $1300? If so you got $700 saved to spend on a nice Optic.

IMG_1054.JPG My buddy shot this group with a mesa lr. 168 match 28 nosler.
He doesn't shoot much. After the group he seen the micrometer and said man I thought it would shoot better than that. Lol IDK if if it does

MSRP is right about $1600 .I've seen one for $1450 on gunbroker. My thoughts were about the same as far as getting one without the wait time. I do not have a Smith in mind, so it's not like I've committed to that or anything. I think I'm going to try to get down to their shop to put hands on and make my decision from there. However, the good reports I've read about, and that Jeremy338 showed here, it might be a no brainer.

Thanks for the input guys. I'd love to hear any other first hand reports on the Mesa LR.

Factory ammo. He was still breaking in the rifle. Kind of embarrassing when someone shows up and throws down groups like that and doesn't even know what it means. I guess there is naturals out there. I have a 300 RUM that shoots in the 3's with 230's. handloads. Christensen ELR

Honestly if you get the CA Mesa I don't think you'll be disappointed. It's technically a factory rifle, but youre getting custom quality.

Money got the best of me....again...sometimes it's tough being such a frugal bastard. I found a smoking deal on a 700 5R in 300 WM, so I bought that. It'll be my second one, and it will hold me over for a long time. Thanks for all of the input and help guys.
