Need some help deciding caliber. Rifle will be used for long range steel competition and busting rocks. Maybe the occasional PRS match. I have been using my 300 win mag, but I'm thinking it's more than what's needed most of the time.
Accuracy is paramount, and performance in wind is a close second. I was thinking 6.5cm, 6br or dasher maybe. Don't really know, haven't delved into the "6" world yet,
Thanks

If you want to build, I'd go with a .260 AI with a 26" 1:8 twist barrel, and Berger 155 Elite Hunters.

Or, just buy this rifle, and have the chamber punched to .260 AI... That's what I would do. It's already got the 24" heavy threaded 5R barrel and the HS Precision stock. Just need to swap the trigger, bed the action, and punch the chamber to .260 AI, and you should be ready to rock & roll.

I shoot a 6 creed in my match rifle. I also have a 6x47 that shoots lights out as well. My buddy shoots a 260. I think any short action 6 or 6.5 would be fine. 6's have less recoil and if your shooting Bergers the bullets are about 10$ cheaper per 100

A 6.5 of some flavor with the 150 smk or 147 eld is a wind bucking son of a gun. The 6mm with a 110 smk however would also buck the wind well.

A 6.5 will give better barrel life than the 6mms will and alittle more versatility. However, the 6mm will shoot flatter and have less recoil. Toss a coin and run with it.

Don't skip looking at a hot-rod .224 like a 22creedmoor or 22-250ai with a fast twist barrel. Sierra just came out with a 95gr match king that should be smoking hot in one of those cartridges. It has a g1bc of .600 which is better than most 6mm bullets and should be a bit faster with less recoil too.

My dad's 22-240 AI shoots a 95 smk at 3200. It's a lazer beam

For what it's worth I had a 1-8 twist 22-250 ai with a 20" barrel that shot 80gr eld match bullets at 3350fps. That has 1.6 moa less drop at 1k and only 0.6 moa more wind drift than a 300 Win with 215 bergers moving at 3,000fps.

If prs is in the equation I'd pass on the dasher. Due to feeding from a detachable box. If you don't compete that would be my second choice. I'd go 6.5 creed then 6creed or 6xc if prs is a real consideration. The 6x47 is another but locally not much support.
