Hi all.
A good friend of mine if going to have his Tikka T3 rebarreld shortly in 30-06.
He's asked me to reload for him.
So i have a few question to those of you that are shooting the 06 with the 178gr ELD-x
1)What coal are you running?
2)If it's a custom barrel was it throuted for them and if so what sort of free bore?
3) Have you had any issues with the dies crushing or marking the bullets when setting?
I have a set of Hornady dies on their way.
Thanks.

You might want to think about getting the custom seating stem for the ELDX bullets

I'll give this a bump.

Haven't loaded the 178eld-x myself. To optimise case capacity you'll be looking at oacl of 3.50-3.55". That will require in the neighbourhood of .200" freebore, which is common to many factory rifles (Remington and Tikka for example).

Personally I'm thinking about setting up my next '06 barrel for 208gr eld's, they are just so slippery! I might even AI it.

I've got the 178 ELD-Xs shooting pretty good in my 06. It is a Sako Finnbear I bought in 1968. I was a kid back then and thought it was fun to shoot ground squirrels with Speer 130 gr hollow points. A few too many of those and it was subsequently rebarreled with a 26" Krieger bull sporter. SAAMI chamber. I'm running the 178s with a COAL of 3.395" which is 0.015" off the lands. The load is 62 gr RL-26, Fed 210 primer. Gives an average velocity of 2,908 fps per Labradar. With 0.005" jump velocity bumps up to 2,950 fps but it didn't shoot as good though still MOA. It groups around 0.75" at 200 yards with the longer jump. No bullet mangling using the standard RCBS bullet seater though I do keep seating pressure pretty low by frequent case annealing.
