stock advice for remington 700 build

I am having a custom 700 built in 7mm. it is a Krieger barrel contoured down to .750 at the muzzle. my question is what is a good aftermarket hunting stock that is not too heavy but will not hurt me in accuracy? I am new to the custom gun game and would greatly appreciate any help! thanks Cannon

Lots of choices out there. It might be better if you would give us an idea on how the rifle is to be used and also your budget. I believe we can guide you in the right direction with a bit more info.

the rifle will be used for hunting out to 500-750 at most. most of my shots will be under 500. as far as budget I guess I will spend what I need to. I don't want to go super cheap and hurt my accuracy, when I have gone this far. 3-700 I guess would be where I would like to keep it if I can. thanks Cannon

At the top end, then McMillan or manners in the configuration that you like. For good quality at an affordable price, then I would go with H.S. Precision. My opinion.

I would suggest looking at Grayboe stocks, either the outlander for a more traditional hunting style stock or the Terrain which is similar to the m40/Mcmillan HTG.

My grayboe is heavy. Tough but heavy. Rather carry around a hs precision.

That depends on if you want a straight grip tactical or more of a hunting style. Any will work.

IF you are willing to pay a little bit more, I would suggest a McMillan. They offer several different grip configurations and perform and feel great. I have several HS stocks and really like them and they will hold up on the accuracy front very well. But, between the two, I would go McMillan myself. I like the tactical style (A-5) myself. But they do offer more traditional hunting style stocks that handle very well. Manners are fantastic stocks as well. Just depends on what you like the look and feel of.

Mcmillian told me it was a 5 to 6 months to build the stock I wanted. Is it worth the wait or better just to order the hs precision pss072?

That HS Precision Stock your looking at is designed for the contour you specified. You'll have to open the barrel channel up some if you plan to bed it/free float it. The interior of those are pretty soft (I opened one up last week actually) and it wasn't the least bit difficult. So far, I really like the HS Precision I have.

Agree with the Deputy the HS prec stock, is great ! I'm NOT trying to start trouble for you, but personally, if I owned that, Rifle I would turn the barrel down, to .650 dia at the muzzle or, .700 and Flute it. The gun, as IS will be, "barrel heavy" and "butt light" with, the HS stock, and bbl. at .750. If you are going to walk, very far "Hunting", it will be too heavy, in general, for "MY" taste ( I like 7.5- 8 pounds Max. !) . You may want to analyze your Rifles WEIGHT and BALANCE,.. before bedding, the Action to a LIGHT Stock like the HS Prec. Just my .02 cents !
