Want to shoot 175 ELD-X or 175 Berger Elite hunters out of my new 26" 8 twist barrel in a 280 AI, anyone have any good recipes?

I recommend using Nosler brass, 7828 SSC, and Fed 210M primers with the Berger 175's seated 0.015" off the lands.

I run 175 SMKs froma 26" Brux 1-9" twist with Nosler Brass, 210M, 57.6g of H4831SC. 2760 FPS. Not exactly same setup but shoots extremely accurate.

There's a lot more to this than simply relating a 'recipe' for any particular bullet and cartridge case combination.

For the rifle we tested Friday I used Re-26 and the Berger 175 Elite Hunter. But we also did a little freebore and throat work before we set the cartridge OAL and distance from the lands. The Labradar showed 2920 while the brass showed no signs of pressure. The barrel was a Bartlein 3B with flutes, Borden action and a Manners EH-1 stock bedded. Five 3-shot groups all in the .3" group size at 100 yards. Six hundred yard groups were in the 2.25" zone. Front rest with a rear bag from a solid bench.

I think the 162 is a better fit, the 175 is gonna eat up a lot of case capacity...If your gonna run the 175 I would be thinking 8 or 8.5 twist...you should be able to run the 162 around 2950 or a little better.

It's going to depend on how the reamer is set up and for which bullet. We have reamers for the 168 and shorter, the 175 Elite hunter and the 195 Elite Hunter. This keeps us from having to set up a throating reamer as a separate step. None of these are off the shelf but have to be ground specifically for these combinations.

How much freebore do you run on the 180 and 195?

I run the 175 Elite Hunter in my .280AI. SAAMI reamer. Proof 26" 1:9" Hot hunting load, max in my rifle.
