Do u prefer manners over McMillan?

McMillan came up with the Marine m40, and continue to make a number of different stocks for militaries around the world. I mean, if they're tough enough for for active combat, they can handle any hunting I'll ever do.

Manners sucks on customer relations and knowledge of your stock and where it is in the build process. They have lied to me several times on builds and always way way way late on a delivery date.

McMillan has alway delivered what they say they would. Always. And on time, if not early.

Manners SUCKS!!!

Tried to build a manners once. After waiting 5 months they sent me the bill and I paid for it. They said ship date would be 2 weeks. After waiting a month I canceled the order. Called Ryan at mcmillan and asked if he had a stock laying around that would work. He emailed me back in 20 Min and I drove down and had stock in hand.

I own 2 manners eh1 and two McMillan game scouts. For hunting I like the palm area of the McMillan. It seems more slim and easier to grip for me. I live in KC so customer service from manners is great. I drive down and show them my issues. Nice guys down there.

Dang, this decision wasn't easy. I went with manners. If all else fails, I can sell it and order another McMillan. I don't know why I chose the manners other than "why not" and just to be different. Valid points were brought up in this thread and I appreciate everyone's input. I hope i made the right choice. If not I will buy another McMillan

As long as the initial finish is up to your specs, then you'll be fine. Seems like most of their problems come from the finishing before assembly. My EH1 was well finished, but the inlet left a bit to be desired. After talking with the smith today, he said not to worry, as they'll mill a bit out of the stock so the bedding is that much more secure. That little extra bedding work will cover up most poor inlet cuts, as long as they're not terrible.

I've owned a McMillan A5, a regular T4, a T4A CF, EH1 CF, and MCS T CF.

I didn't really have any complaints on my McM but until they can field a mini-chassis i doubt i will go back. I had $1300 tied up in my A5 by the time it was all said and done and couldn't sell it for anything, although bedding is specific so i get that.

I've ordered two stocks directly through manners without issue. The T4A on group buy through SH and the MCS T for dad's gun. Both were finished on time (4-6 months). The EH1 and T4 i got through separate retailers.

Fact of the matter is that McMillan offers nowhere near the feature set that Manners now has for the competition market, basically the integration of the mini-chassis and accessories that eliminates the added expense of bedding, yet doesn't give up all features to a chassis.

The one issue i had with my T4A was that my Tempest didn't fit in the mini-chassis that well. Which is not an uncommon issue. Sent it to them they Milled out the chassis to accommodate it and then walked it over to GAP for me so they could polish the breaching ring. I've talked to Tom several times through that ordeal as well as when they accidentally sent me the wrong mag latch. Their customer service has been wonderful for me and most that i know seem to attest the same. The issue really lies in their production capability versus the demand. Much like typical smiths it seems some receive false wait times and to that end i understand their frustration.

I can't believe that some of you here have had a bad experience with Manners cuts service. I have 2 stocks already with another one on order. Wait time is what it is but it's worth the wait.

If you just ask the receptionist if you can talk to one of the guys they will put you through and the guys there can't be any nicer....they are EXTREMELY nice, helpful, knowledgeable guys that will help you out and never rush you off the phone. I even spoke to Tom Manners himself a few times and he was awesome. He even gave me his cell number to remind him about my on order stock! I never met him in my life...I am just a regular guy who buys a stock from time to time, so he owes me nothing other than just doing the right thing by an anonymous customer on the phone.

Not saying that you guys are lying but maybe something went wrong in your case??
Again, bought 3 stocks from these guys and each time I spoke with someone in their customer service dept with NO ISSUES...only positive interactions.

Me....I wouldn't buy a stock from a one else

Just my 2cents of course

I have both A5 and EH1 -A I like the McMillan better. Manners seems to thump me in the cheek bone. Perhaps its just how I mount the rifle but don't have that issue with the McMillans. Also the inleting of the McMillan has been far better.

That cheek thumping may be caused by the stock pitch. My Manners EH3 stocks I have a down pitch. That will make them shift toward the cheek when fired. My McMillan stocks have a neutral pitch. At some point I'm probably going to change the angle on the EH3 stocks.
