I have 2 tbac 338 suppressors, 2 ultra 9's and have used them on .223 to 338 norma. They have performed fine. The sound reduction is great, but the recoil reduction is an added bonus.
Suppressor Suggestions?

The 9" is a bit heavier but for me the real difference is when you get you'st the the 7'', the 9'' seems really long.
I have 2 Ultra 5's on order for hunting rifles. I can only imagine how much better they will be than the Ultra 7 in the field. The Ultra 5's will be louder but im not worried about it for single shots or even a follow up shot.

I can only afford one right now and everyone seems to overly favor TBAC. That makes it easy knowing which company to buy from. Now it's what model! I would love to but the 5" because of how small and light it is, but sounds like most guys say 7" is the shortest they would ever go. If I'm shooting rocks or steel I'm going to use ear protection anyways, and if I'm hunting I shouldn't need more than a few shots protection. Keep us updated on how the 5" works out for you.

This is a good discussion. I have the same concerns. If shooting targets, I am not worried about it as I will wear ear plugs wither way. But the rifle I use for hunting has a 28" barrel and wonder what way to go. The rifle is already really long, so is it worth worrying about saving an inch or two? Or just go with the 9" and deal with it since i built a long rifle anyways. Or is it going to make it way too long and make it so i don't want to pack it?
The Amtec 7.62 suppressor has been at the top of my list for awhile now. Just hesitant as of now since it's hard to find someone who has first hand experience with these. It's a slide over the barrel suppressor that fits over barrels up to .950 di and only extends 4" past the barrel. The only other can I know of like this was designed by Shawn of defensive edge for his 338 terminator which I'm sure is top notch.

Im wondering BJH if it's worth buying 2 suppressors, say a 5" for hunting and a 9" for practicing or a 7 and 9, or just buy one compromise suppressor. Interesting for sure and as long as the wait time is you definitely want to get it right. I've been looking at that ballista suppressor, another slide over the barrel type, pretty seriously as it only adds 5" to the barrel and is pretty lightweight at 13.6oz.

I've talked to Ladd hall from western precision rifles quite a bit about them. He loves them and swears by them. Not sure if he is paid to do that though...
The barrel is taking up a large amount of volume in these suppressor designs that is usually open to trap gases. But they claim the DB reduction rating is the same with the suppressor being the same length and diameter. I would like to know how they achieve this. They must have reengineered the baffles to be more effective, if these claims are true.
I own and have shot quite a few different suppressors. For hunting I would highly recommend a quick detach suppressor. Having a long barrel and then adding 9" to it is annoying and gets caught in trees when hikeing. So i leave my suppressor off until i get my gun out and am ready to shoot.
I also wanted the longest largest suppressor I could find in a 30 cal to have the quietest gun possible. Honestly, that was a waste as i can't hear a difference in how loud they are, so while a few db on a meter makes a difference in the real world pick a suppressor that has the features and size you are after, because all the silencers will be close to the same. They simply have different tones, the volume seems close enough your splitting hairs.
I think my favorite suppressor is the SilencerCo Omega 30 cal. Is quick detach, and there is no POI shift from putting it on each time. Also their customer service is second to non. Very stout and robust can, and super adjustable with the different ends and mount options. (it actually comes with two muzzle breaks, and a direct thread cap so you can run it however you want. Plus you can change out the baffle stack at the end to quiet down 22 cals etc... very modular and nice system)
Also silencerco offers a flash hider qd instead of muzzle break. This is very nice so you don't blow your ears out with a muzzle break if shooting unsuppressed.
I do like the 9" SAS and Ultra 9's, but for me they are a little too long when hunting. Also i have them in direct thread, which when in a hurry for a shot can take forever to get threaded onto your gun. I like these ones better for range shooting.
For a direct thread the Dead Air Ti is very nice as they are pretty cheap, yet are still very strong and light weight. Performs just as good as the SAS or Thunderbeasts but at half the price.

For hunting cans, don't overlook the Liberty Sovereign. I hear it's quite the can, and it comes with tons of accessories when you buy it. It comes with QD and DT mounting options.
I have an Eliteiron Bravo on my .30 LARA with 27" barrel and they are very effective and built like a tank ...

I have a varminter 3.0 sold by Dakota silencers and made by Mack brothers. I love it it's 9" long full titanium and weights 13 oz. And is extremely quite. I use it on my 22 all the way up to my 300 ultra mag.
They now have the varminter 4.0 out and you can change the length of the suppressor from 9" to 7" by taking out a couple of the baffles in the suppressor. These are definitely worth checking out and priced very reasonably.
