Dan. I can tell you from expereince you do not want to go in the cheap if you are serious about night hunting. I have about $10K in my scope and monocular and I still want more. I would highly recommend you hold off and save and get the very best you can, cause if not, you will feel like you wasted your money. I am thinking of upgrading soon, if I do I will have my PVS14 (fully loaded military Gen III hand select tube....) for sale but it would be in the $2800-$3000 range. Night hunting is a blast. I really appreciate the response. I am very serious about night hunting and have been at it for several years, but the coyotes are definitely getting educated to red lights. I appreciate your advice, I would to buy your PVS, but kiddos are more important. How far would you say you can see a coyote on a dark night approaching? Thanks in advance

I can see a coyote at 400 yards without any IR enhancement. If I use the IR spot light I can pick up movement and eyes past 600 yards. I had some success at first with lights, but pigs and coyotes got smart fast. Then went to cheaper NV that depended on ir. People say pigs and coyotes can't see ir, but I say different. Had too many pigs duck out when ir on them. Bit the bullet and went deep and on nights with clear sky's and a little moon can see forever. On the darkest nights can still see out to legitimate shooting range without issue. The manual gain, hand select are worth their weight in gold. My next set will be the thermal/NV combo but they are only military now and will be a year or two before available. Price tag will be ugly but if I am going to spend the time I want to be able to see and shoot. Happy to help.

dan, Sealesniper knows of what he speaks. Don't buy cheap,rent instead. You can rent until you get the coin to upgrade.

Ultimate Night Vision. I have been renting for a couple of hunts. It works for me and gives me a chance to try several brands at different price ranges.
