Need some help deciding on which scope I'm going to upgrade to. Getting into the competition side of things some so I want to upgrade to better glass. Unfortunately I still can't afford an ATACR or PM II. My budget is around $1300. So far I've looked into vortex PST gen II, Burris XTR II, Bushnell DMR II(that's around 1500), and athlon ares(don't know alot about the brand). I'm leaning towards the pst or dmr II at this point but I've read some sketchy reviews on the pst. Looking for some first hand reviews on these to help me decide. Definitely want something in the 5-20 magnification range, ffp, with decent clarity for the price.
Thanks guys

Several guys at the range where I shoot at just went with Sightron Slll. They are raving about the clarity and precision of the turrets.

Well that sucks to hear. That's the main one I was looking at. Just wondering but what makes you say that?

To be honest, I should probably omitted myself from this topic because scopes I owned were the first generation.

My scopes out of the box felt cheap and heavy. If i remember right, seemed like they weighed 4oz more than advertised.

Glass was average. Turrent knobs seemed tall and clicks felt mushy. Paralax adjustment was aweful. If i remember right, no zero stop on early model. One tracked perfectly the other didnt.

With that said, new models may be greatly upgraded and worth a look for the price. The early models left a bad taste in my mouth and I learned to stick to NF or S&B and have never given the new model a look.

The G3 reticle has .5 mil hash marks. I feel reticle should have .2 hash marks making scope more useful at longer ranges. I dont get the one .25 hash between 1 and 1.5 mils. Just another thing about the scope that one would see on a $800 scope.

No, I'm glad you said that. Now I know to stick to the gen II if I go that route. I'm gonna look though and see what I can find used razors and ATACRs for first though

another what scope thread and a nother nightforce NXS reply. never looses zero. just a great optic. couldnt recomend it anough.

Th Sightron siii is an amazing scope with excellent glass, it's one and only downfall is no zero stop. There are workarounds, and if you're ok with a homemade one then that is a goreat scope for the money. If you want one that's ready to go out of the box, the XTR II is also a good choice. Glass maybe not as clean as the Sightron, but still good enough, and has a better feature set.

I've owned a Viper PST Gen II (5-25), a Burris XTR (5-25), and a Bushnell ERS Gen I (3-21). Of the three, I like the PST Gen II the best, but I wouldn't hesitate to pick up one of the other two if you find a particularly good deal on one.

I should probably mention that all three are quite large and very heavy. Even though the PST has a 30mm tube (instead of 34 like the other two), it feels every bit as heavy.

I have 3 SWFA SS scopes, but none of the HD models. The regular SWFA SS scopes are VERY high quality for the money, and I've been extremely impressed with them. They track true, are built like a tank, and the glass is pretty **** clear. I have been told that the HD models rival Swarovski and S&B in glass, lens coating, and mechanical function quality. For your price range, I recommend this scope...

Leupold VX6 3-18x50 can still be found on Ebay for around 1100.00. You won't do better on your budget or even spending quite a bit more.
