MCR 300 Dakota " Heavy Gun "

Just got this 1000 yard BR heavy gun all buttoned up this morning. Geske action on a Ridenour " Longfellow " 40 inch barrel, 1.5" dia !! Chambered in 300 Dakota. Can't wait to see the .30 cal's make a come back and set some new records !!

Yep, 40" barrel length. She tips the scales at over 60 lbs.

That joker is a beast! Maybe a dumb question but what purpose does the metal on the bottom of the stock serve? Weight? Or to ride the rests? Sorry, I don't know anything about the benchrest game.
