I have a 6.5 creedmoor with a 26" barrel. Been reading about the high velocities achieved with reloader 26. Claims as high as 3000 fps with 140s.
I'm like to hear more success stories and what your data is for it.
I'm also wondering how temp stable reloader 26 is?

I haven't loaded in 6.5 creed, but in my .260 AI it is simply outstanding. I was able to reach 3170 before max pressure with 140 vld's, and "settled" on 3090 with a load that is easy on brass.

But, the member "Bowfishn" from this site posted in the "Reloder 26" thread, and I'll quote his results. Keep in mind all the regular safety rules, this is his results in his gun with his equipment, always work up slowly and BE CAREFUL. Here is his post-

Ok I got a chance to get to the range today to check out a few loads using RL26 and Hornady 143 ELDX bullets in my 6.5 Creedmoor.

*this load was compressed I had to use a drop tube to get all the powder in.

48grs had best group of .216"ctc 49gr was not too bad at .567"ctc
group average center was same point of impact between 47.5 gr. and 49 gr.
I am going to work on loads up and down from 48 gr. and try longer and shorter COAL.
No sign of pressure observed and when I popped the primers from the 48.5 and 49 gr loads they were just as tight as the lightest load.

-hope that helps out.

As far as temp stability, I'll quote my post from the "Reloder 26" thread as well. I have heard of people getting good results until temps get over 85ish, then the velocities tend to go up quicker than normal, however, I have not seen this in the two rifles I have loaded in, but I also haven't thoroughly tested at these higher temps.

So I did a temperature test, I'll go over how I conducted it. I put 5 rounds in a zip lock bag in my freezer overnight, then on my way to the range I put the rounds in a bucket filled with ice, and put my kestrel inside so I had a temperature I could monitor and record. The other rounds were kept at room temperature in my house, then on my dashboard in my truck on the way to the range.

When I got to the range and set up my chronograph, I got my bucket of ice and pulled my kestrel out and looked at the temp, it registered 17° f, but by the time I thought to get my phone out and take a picture, it had warmed up to the 30's, as the ambient temp outside was in the high 60's. After this I put my kestrel in my ammo box with my room temp rounds.

First I shot the chilled rounds, pulling them out of the ice one at a time, and I shot them within about 3 seconds of chambering them, and recording velocity. Then after that, I let my barrel cool to room temp, then looked at the temp in my ammo box, which was 67 ° f. Then I shot those 5 rounds, and recorded velocity.

This was my load for all rounds fired in my .260 AI:

49.1 grains RL-26
Lapua Brass
CCI BR-2 primer
140 Berger VLD Seated .005 off lands

And these were my velocity results:

17° f -
1. 3051
2. 3046
3. 3056
4. 3066
5. 3055 AVG. 3054, E.S. 20 FPS

67° f -
1. 3060
2. 3059
3. 3055
4. 3058
5. 3063 AVG. 3059, E.S. 8 FPS

My lower temp loads would have had a 10 fps e.s. If it wasn't for the one that went 3066, and also would have averaged 3052 instead of 3054. But even at that...The velocity spread for 50° f difference was only 7 fps...so all my worries about temp sensativity are now dismissed, at least for this rifle.

Thanks for all the info, I'm definitely gonna have to pick up a jug and try it. So for hunting temp it should be plenty stable. It's amazing people are getting performance to rifle a 6.5 gap out of a 6.5 creedmoor

I also tried rl-26 in my 26in criterion. I posted my results on the rl-26 thread but I'll post them again. I didn't achieve the velocity bowfishin did but still impressive nevertheless. I settled on 48 grains with a 140 hornady eld-match at 2945. I ran up to 49 grains which yielded 3014 fps. 49 grains was halfway up the neck in my hornady brass. I shot the 48 grain load at 1000 last week with great results. It shot just as well as My tried and true load of 42 grains of rl-17 at 2880. My 5 shot group with 48 grains was in the .3s and a 3 shot group with 49 grains was also .3s.

Even though my loads showed no sign of pressure according to QL my load that reached 3054 with the 143 ELD-X was over pressure.
My loads that reached 3000 were well within SAAMI specs. and were the best for accuracy. I am using HBN now so I use around 48.5 gr of my Lot# of RL26 to achieve 3000 fps with the 143. I also have tested the 147 ELD-M and have a good accuracy node at 2930 fps, it is well within pressure , the 147 is flatter because of it's higher BC.
Using the G7 BC at 2930 fps sighted in at 100 yards my ballistics calculator shows I can shoot a mile with a turret adjustment of 67.3" and it stays sonic till 1660 yards.

"48 grains of RL26 , BR2 primers Nosler Brass 52.7gr H2O HBN coated bullets. 2.890" gave the best group at 100 yards and lowest SD. .300" ctc with 5 shots and SD of 5, this was at an average velocity of 2930 fps."
Remember start low work up slowly watch for any pressure signs, use a chronograph or something for checking velocity, this will tell you if you are getting close on pressure.

I'm excited to try some 147 eldm and reloader 26. When that bullet first came out I thought long to achieve a velocity worth using, but if i find a node near 2900 fps, that will be awesome.

How do you know you are getting close to max pressure by the chrony? Because of reaching 3k fps?

Seating depth, case capacity, coated or non coated as well as BA on your lot of powder will change the velocity and pressure.
If velocity is up over 2950 fps than most likely pressures are over as well, if it is close to 2900 - 2930 fps it should be alright. If you are using Lapua brass which has a lower case capacity than pressures will be higher for the same velocity.

If you jam the lands pressure will also go up even though you are using a longer COAL. Start low watch closely for signs including velocity as most times pressure signs will not show up until you get above 70K.

Bowfishn any chance you could post up QL data for 143gr ELDx, 22", hornady case, LR primer would like to see velocities it shows for 22". I finally found some RL26 plan to load some up next weekend.

For what it's worth, we shot rl-26 in my dad's 22in with the 140 eld-m and from what I remember it was right around 2900 or a hair over. I dont remember the charge we ran

Ok this is based off of the default values for RL26 in QL. Your lot number may give different results, use a means of checking velocities to determine if you are over pressure as well as work up slowly and watch for signs of pressure. Remember the pressure follows the velocity in the chart. 63,091 psi is CIP pressure the 49 gr load is just under CIP, they list it as dangerous because it does not take much of a change to put it over.

COAL is 2.800" if loaded to longer it may reduce pressures 2.840" allows for up to 49.3 grains of RL26 velocity of 2892 fps @ 62,333 psi, if it is not jamming the lands. With other info we can be more specific, so let us know your actual velocity obtained with loads.
