I've been testing the new Hornady 180 ELD match bullets in my 28 Nosler, and thought I'd start a new post for everyone to share actual performance from these bullets (Any ELD-M really).

I'm using 80.0 grains of Retumbo to drive the 180's at 3100 FPS, accuracy is great I'm shooting .5 MOA from a bipod laying in the snow.

I did some snowshoeing today looking for a place to shoot at distance. I finally found a large rock at 500 yards with a softball sized patch of moss growing on it's face.
Using the advertised BC of .796 I dialed in the elevation and drilled the moss clump dead center!
I shot another round to verify the BC and blew the moss to bits.
I'm impressed it looks like the BC is gonna hold..
As soon as I get the chance I'll try some longer ranges, I'd also like to test expansion and penetration.
If anyone has been doing this already please share!

I got the 180 ELD-M's from Midway, they are marketing them as a generic factory second, and this proves they are the real deal.
They are still in stock for $17.50 a box FYI.

Awesome news man! So glad to hear the 180s are holding true to Hornady's BC numbers. We shoot the 208gr, 140s, 147s, and 162gr ELDs and everyone of them we take the middle velocity BC number, or the average of all three, and that has been spot on for us out to 700 yards. The 208s I am running the BC at .683, the 140s we ran at .636, 147s at .687, and the 162s at .655 all of these are dead on. I am very, very impressed with these bullets. I was a huge AMAX fan, and these ELD Match are even better with higher BCs, more bullet options, and amazing accuracy!

That's good to hear. I plan on building a 7mm for this bullet. I've tested the 140 eld-match out to 1000 and the bc was dead on like Jud's experience.

Yeah I was a fan of the Amax as well, I killed a pile of deer with them and I friend of mine took a nice bull elk with the 162 Amax.
My wife and I got our bucks this year at close range with the 162 ELD-X from my Tikka 7mm, and in both cases we got instant kills and the bullets were recovered under the hide.
I'm hoping the ELD-Match bullets hold up to high velocity.

Thanks for the input on the 147's BC, I'm re-barreling my Tikka 7mm to 6.5 SAUM and those bullets are gonna be top on my list.

I was able to shoot out to 675 yards today with the 180 ELD-Match bullets.
Once again using the .796 BC I was hitting dead on.

Tag. Curious about on game performance with the ELD-M.

Very similar to the A-MAX bullets, but from my very limited experience with them on game, they almost seem to hold together a little better. We have shot one deer and a few ground hogs with the 140gr ELDs from a 6.5-284 and they did a great job. They left about a golf ball sized hole in the deer's offside and blew some bigger holes in the hogs. They expand fast, but still penetrate enough to deliver the energy and bullet into the vitals. The deer was shot at roughly 150 yards behind the shoulder, and the hogs were shot around 200-250 in the bodies. Very happy with them and have heard nothing but great things about their ability to anchor game.

Shot out to 1100 yrds today with the 180-m . Speed was around 3050 fps. With the high BC, 700 yrds and in seem like chip shots.

I was at .030 of the lands. I will try .020 and .025 next time out.

Were you using the .796 BC at 1100yds? Glad to hear they are working well

I did use the .796 at 1100 yards. I did make a speed adjustment based on a calll at 1100. I don't have a chrono so I estimated speed. I'll shoot from 500 to 1100 yrds with that speed and BC next time. I'll grab some paint today so I can measure groups.

I only had six rounds to send down range after load develop.

BTW I'm shooting a rifle I'm building myself. Shilen 8T 26 in barrel on a savage action. I got more work to do. Still using plastic stock with about 4 pound trigger. I wanted to see the potential before I went all in. I'll order stock, bottom metal and target spring for trigger today.
