Best $1500 Hunting Rifle

I picked up a Tikka CTR in 6.5 Creedmoor. I was hesitant at first since I have never shot anything with that short of a barrel, but I am now ultra impressed with that rifle. It has shot everything I put through sub MOA, and shoots handloads .5 with regularity.

The trigger, magazine, and whole package have functioned flawlessly, including some trips out when it's 10 below zero and rather uninviting. I even managed to shoot a cow elk with it this year and loaned it to a hunting buddy on his cow. Nice little gun, couldn't ask for anything more.

The barrel length is what has kept me from looking at the CTR. I'd like something with 22 or 24 inch barrel.

I bought one of the X-bolt Hells Canyon speed rifles in 6.5 CM to act as my lightweight Deer rifle. Very nice for a factory rifle, shot sub moa with the first load I tried. Street price is $1000. Nice factory Cerakote job, removal brake that could be replaced with a suppressor if you want to go that route.

For velocity or balance reasons? For what it's worth I am
Able to get 2800 fps with a Berger 135 classic hunter in my CTR. I did put a brake on it that lengthens the balance point a little. Not to mention it will work nicely when my suppressor finally makes it out of the paperwork process.

Thanks man. This is one of the two X-bolts I'm really considering. I really like the looks of the Speed with the Cerakote and removable muzzle break. I've got a surpressor I could screw on there if I wanted too.

If I don't get the Speed, I'll just get the stainless model. I found one for $920 out the door which I think is a pretty decent price.

Are you reloading or shooting factory ammo? I'm not looking to reload, I will probably just go with Hornady 143 grain ELD-X.

Greg.

I'd really like to here some feedback on this .260 in 5r from Remington. As my custom funds are low and have wanted to build a .260 to shoot long with my big guns.i,ve heard good things about savage lrp,but they look so but ugly to me,just my opinion though.

... if it's ugly for you, just leave to the NUTS that appreciate them for what they do best. :):Dgun)

It is ugly to me but honestly I have almost ordered one twice,as I think I can live with it the way they seem to perform:) it looks like I can get into one for under a grand. Was just holding out to hear more on Remington's performance first.

... and they screwed up royally for not supporting it. A win for Hornady and kudos for their support and for raking in the royal benefit$$$$$ as shown by its new following.

Yes they did...Remington royally screwed the pooch by giving up on the .260 Rem back in the day. It was also about 15 years ahead of it's time, and the timing was very bad, since it was during the "magnum craze" where everyone was trying to push out the biggest, baddest, fastest largest magnum they could.

However, it seems to be making a comeback lately with the 6.5mm crazy going on the last few years.

Wildrose has one, and says it's a phenomenal shooter.

I've been wanting one for a while. I'm going to order one sooner or later.

I have a Ruger american pred 6.5 cm and was wanting to try the 135 classic hunters in it. If you dont mind me asking what is your pet load for it?
