260 ackley calculation help needed

Easy fix. Who cares what the ballistic app says, write down your actual drops to actual ranges and go from there. It sounds like you got a good load going with consistent accuracy and velocity. I would make my own ballistics chart and use known actual data.

Make a chart with what you got and you will be good to go,but your speeds seems slow to me...My 260ai is running considerably faster than that with 140's..

Considerably..gun)

Chrono speeds can change with lighting conditions..I use my chrono for a starting point then adjust with what I see in the field..

I suspect you are faster than you think..

not so easy for me.
I get 1 day a month to shoot
there is no way of spotting misses
I need to get zeroed at 1000 not play around in the midfield
a ballistics chart would be useful if it could get me on target but so far they have been way off

I am still working on the load and I am going for accuracy not speed

Just calculate with your 3100 that it takes to be on and use that dope to dial 1000, if it plays out you should be close enough to get on target. If you miss and don't have a spotter, start aiming low and high till you hit, and figure your dope. I did it with my 308, its not too hard. Shoot at the biggest 1000 yd target you can. Heck, a sheet of plywood with a spray painted dot.

Also, don't try to rush things to stretch your distance if you plan on hunting. Just like accuracy is more important than velocity, being proficient is more important than being able to hit that 1000 yd target occasionally. If you don't have the ability to practice enough to have a good ability to call wind, have a solid dope, and good shooting technique, then just limit yourself to a range you can do all those things. Stay conservative when you plan on taking a big game animal, and you will stay ethical.

But if your just banging steel...stretch as far as you can!! That of course will help increase the distance at which you are proficient. Hope you can get her figured

got out to the range again.
temp 67 and overcast
I have increased the load to 47 grains

here are my corrections for today (MOA). wind was 10mph from the right at 90*
distance....elevation....windage
100...............0...............0
400...............5...............2.5
500...............6.5............3
600...............10.3..........3.2
700...............12.............3.5
800...............15.............4 but was hitting to the right so 3.8 would be my next correction

got good center hits at 700 and hit high at 800. only had 2 hits at the 800 then ran out of ammo

got out to the 100 yard range today to test the scope adjustments

0 MOA put shots on point of aim ( 1/2" group )

6.5 MOA on the scope put the shots 6-3/4" above the aiming mark ( 1/2" group )

12 MOA was 12-3/4" above aiming mark ( 3/4" group )

( measurement averaged from center of group to center of aiming mark )

since the last range trip I have changed the scope on the rifle so today I zeroed it at 100 and then went to 400 and using the corrections that I had in my book from the other scope I got center hits then went to 700 again using the book and got center hits again so the scopes both gave the same results. checked MV and its 2900. low 2897. high 2909. DV 12 for 10 shots
I worked on getting on at 900 (+20moa) and 1000 (+26moa)

Sweet, glad it's getting figured out. I shot my .260 AI at 1007 yds today, 143 gr. ELD-X@ 2970, 22.25 moa of adjustment and was perfect for elevation. That's with 48.6 gr H-4831sc and a 30" tube.

If you do not mind me asking why you are using the 140 Gr. bullet? My Rem. 260AI has a factory Rem. thin 22" bbl. I load a 120 BT atop 47.0 gr. of H4350. I chronographed this 10 shot load, let bbl. cool between shots, for an average of 2969. Yes, lots of people do not care for the Nosler BT. I also load a 130 Berger VLD Hunting bullet atop 46.0 gr. of H4350, 10 shot group and let bbl. cool between each shot, for an average of 2867. Again, not all care for the Berger 130 gr. I like each load as both are very accurate out to 300 yds. and beyond. My self imposed limited yardage is 300 yds. +/- 50 yds. Now, I will say that the 130 Berger essentially makes my 260AI as single shot as I seat the 130 Berger out to a measurement of 2.245 touching the lands. Too long for the magazine. I set up my own drop chart to 300 yds. by shoot 5 shot groups at yardages to 300 yds. I get very good accuracy at all yardages with a 3.5" group at 300 yds. Now, I get a little less drop with the 120 BT. But, it is minimal. BTW, I have taken 4 African plains game animals with the 120 BT. One and done. My 260AI is my go to rifle for antelope, white tail deer, mule deer and animals to 300 pounds. I have shot thru feral hog shoulder shield skin, thru and thru with each load. I shot an African Red Lechwe in the chest and the BT exited just above the bull Lechwe anus. We all know that rifle barrels are like finger prints being each is different and not standard. I hope that this might instill some thought and perhaps give it a try. I have yet to play with the new Hornady ELD or the Nosler LRAB. Perhaps in the future. My range time is always in the morning, cool mornings if possible, 3700' elevation with minimal humidity. I live in NW MT and hunt this rifle lots. I have used this Rem. 700 mountain rifle for yrs. It has yet to let me down. I hope this helps. I have been keeping abreast of this post and have learned a bit. Good luck! MTG

If you do not mind me asking why you are using the 140 Gr. bullet?

because that was what was available at the store. then I managed to pick up a few boxes at 1/2 price so thats the reason that I started with them but I think I will stay using them. I am getting sub MOA out to 700 yards in the wind.
also you are using a lighter bullet and have a lower velocity. I am getting 2900 fps from a 140 also loaded longer than 308 mag length. I load to the lands too and use it as a single shot.
I might be willing to try some berger 130vld"s and see how they perform if I found some locally

UPDATE

Finally I have this sorted out. I have made a few changes. Now using lapua brass and 130 berger vld #26503. Also now the zero range is 200

load 47g of H4831 in a 7-08 lapua case formed to 6.5 improved. cci primer. 130 grain berger vld touching the lands. rifle is a savage axis with a McGowen barrel

today it was 40f and light rain wind was 7 to 11 mph

range......elevation (MOA).....wind (MOA)
200...........0............................0
300...........3..........................0.3
400...........5..........................0.8
500..........6.5........................2.2
600..........10.........................3.5
700..........13.5.......................4
800..........16.8......................4.5
900...........20..........................5
1000.........24........................5.5

This load is super accurate. I am able to get sub MOA groups with ease.
I used this load last month and worked out the elevations and today was able to get first round hits at all ranges (except 800) using last months elevation data. At 800 I got caught by the wind, I had too much wind on.

Very nice...I'm working on a load now with the 147 ELD-M, I should easily get over 2900, and so far accuracy is looking promising, and BC is IMPRESSIVE, significantly outperforms my previous load of 140 Berger @2930...over half MOA less 10 mph wind drift @1000 if it's only going 2900 fps
