So excuse me if this has been talked about already, but I watched the video about Hornady's 4DOF ballistic calculator. Now being that I don't work for NASA, nor did I go higher than collage algebra I don't have a back round in math or science to call BS or this is the next best thing since sliced bread. So, does anyone have any in put on this yet?

Hornady Announces 4DOF Trajectory Calculator | Midsouth Shooters Blog

It seems to be very close to Shooter when I compare the 215gr Berger Hybrids.

I've used the ballistic calculator they have on the website for years for figuring and printing drop charts and I've always found it to be very reliable.

I've tried several of the available ballistic app's for Android phones but find them to be a pain in the field mostly due to my fat fingers and need for reading glasses along with the fact that glare is almost always a problem unless you are in a very shady spot or working in twilight.

Berger has almost turned it into a "weiner measuring contest".

Berger isn't involved at all. Applied Ballistics disputed their false/twisted marketing claims. Its about the truth. If that's what you think this is, you haven't been paying attention to the facts. Go back and read the latest posts from Bryan.

This statement isnt entirely accurate.

My apologies...Applied Ballistics. Now is it accurate? :)

And I have been reading it all. Another company has moved into your realm of specialty and tried to do something. You are posting to discredit the information that they are putting out to keep people from jumping ship and using the Hornady 4DOF instead of your AB product and trying to take the high chair by saying that you are protectors of the truth! Very chivalrous of you but what happens if this 4DOF gives out accurate readings just like yours but is free?? Man...that would be devastating to your business wouldn't it? Surely unbiased truth isn't being driven home by the need for financial success!

Just don't see any other reason to jump on it so hard than someone is trying to cut into your money pie. If it's not accurate, then the people that use it will find out and then not use it. But phew...if it does work just as good...watch out huh?!$$$$$$

If they charge for their app and other products that would come out of this, I guess there could be a price war going on there. Competition is good for the consumer and not so good for the competitors pocket book sometimes.

Applied Ballistics is free online and has been for some time, don't think 4DOF is competitive, the numbers I've ran that have been proven with multiple programs even ones with a similar solver show that the Hornady program has some work to do if it's to be competitive.

Yea...I'm talking about apps and other products maybe through kestrel in the future. Don't get me wrong, Bryan and their bunch have furthered the ballistics knowledge more than anyone in this area of expertise and they should be commended for it. But the way they came off at first in their first few posts was very disappointing to me. In the later posts they kind of curved it back around to the positive side. I shouldn't have even posted about it haha. But it gets old to see the bashing (so called discussion) after a while. Probably shouldn't even read it and just let it play out.
