Hornady ELD-X Official Thread

I've got a 1 in 9 as well so we're gonna find out! I knew it was 1 in 8.5 when ordering but am crossing my fingers my gun will make it work. If not I'm sure I can sell them quick.

That sucks!! Midway not fulfilling back orders before offering to the rest??!! That really ****es me off!!

Customer service is getting a earful.

I emailed them, they replied with some mushy mouthed response about the .30 cal 178 being available instead of the 7mm...either the rep is completely brain dead or they are just playing stupid to avoid owning up to hosing the backorder folks.

Got something of the same response.
Midway has always been top notch for me. Hope this isn't a sign of thing to come.

hence why I will NOT back order anything.... They have you by the butt as they have you committed already...

I take a different approach and backorder from multiple sites and then cancel as needed. Cancelling is easy either online on on the phone and if I get too much of an item I can always return. That netted me six boxes of ELD-X 7mm 175's in three weeks that arrived on Tuesday. Cabela's almost always wins but they are a few bucks more expensive in most cases.

Midway has the most quirky BO system and the most disconnect with it's agents and live product status when it comes to BOs. Cabela's is only marginally better in that regard. Overall though both companies have very good agents and customer support.

I'm pretty well set up for most of my pipes so I really am not worries about getting stuff in most cases. I've only got a 7mm and 30 cal that I'm not 100% settled with. I am working with eld-x pills in both on them...

Still waiting for 30 cal 212's. Got 500 the first time around. Will need a 2k more!!

My 284 Shehane like the 162 ELD match bullets but not any more than the Bergers. I'll use them though because they are just as accurate and a bit cheaper. My 30-06 HATES the 200gr ELD-x bullets. Sticking with the Berger 185 Hunter hybrids which it loves. To be fair it's an 11 twist barrel which Amy have something to do with it.

My 30-06 liked both the 212s and the 178s but the barrel is a 26" 1 in 10 Krieger. At 200 yards the worst groups while incrementing up in powder were around 2 inches but most of the groups were around 1.4" and on a node it would run about 0.8". (It was nice that max velocity corresponded to the tightest group.) Average velocity was 2,908 fps which is pretty sporty for a 178 gr bullet in an 06. ES was 18 fps.

The 6.5mm 143s shot good in my 6.5 WSM and my buddies 264 WM. The 220s shot good in his 300 RUM. The 200s and 178s shot good in my 300 WSM (like 0.5MOA). Out of all of the load workups we have done the worst was the 212s in my 300 RUM. The best I could get was 1.7" at 200 yards but the barrel is a crappy factory barrel so I wasn't surprised I couldn't get it to shoot any better than that. Last up is the 175s. I'll be starting on them in a 28 Nosler on Monday. I'm liking what I've seen so far.
