I did, couldn't really tell you why, but now thinking the 264wm is going to be my choice.

Just got mine back from the smith today. Loaded up some 140gr. Amaxs for the barrel break-in and Holy Cow that thing shoots. Can't wait to start serious load development. Can't wait to get to Montana this fall.

3325 fps with a 140 gr in 270 win , that is truly a magical gun right there.

My Dad bought a 264 wm in '61 and shot 1 box of ammo with it. He thought it had more recoil than he wanted, so he bought a 270 win. I started shooting the 264 wm when I was 14 that was in '79. Since then I have shot 2,500 + rounds in it. It still has good accuracy. When I was 18 I started hand loading heavy high velocity rounds. It would probably good too have it bore inspected for good measure. The 6.5 cal has become popular 260 rem, 6.5 c-moor, 26 nosler and 6.5-300 weatherby. No mater what anyone thinks about then it is all about what works for the individual. My Dad died in '14 and the 264 wm is more than sentimental too me.
Roy's rifle is not a 270 win. It's a 270 AM. His first post he referred to it as a win but his later posts were referring to his AM.

I was going to build one when Hornady & George Gardner come out with the 6.5 PRC so Im building that for now......but I have recently picked up a Carl Gustaf 1900 7mm with a nice wood stock so thinking a 264 wm will make for a cool build on that platform since the 7mm barrel was toast.

I have a full custom 264 w.m. on a defiance action & a 26" lilja tube. it shoots great it really liked the 140grn Barnes match Burners & 61 grains of 4831sc @ 3134fps and that was with a standard reamer so I just had my Smith push the throat out for better performance with the heavier 6.5. bullets that are available so I'm excited to see what it will do now, also my buddy has a pre 64 Winchester 264 that has had zero work done to it and it shoots the Berger 130s pretty good for a factory rifle that was built in the early 60s

Any above average reloader/shooter worth his salt knows not to put dwn one cartridge for another one that just shows lack of knowledge , lack of shooting ability , lack of real world hunting experience , lots of good common sence posts but some real laughable ones also . Champion your cartridge but don't put another down to do it !!! I've reloaded 30 odd yrs , and never owned a 264 w/mag , reloaded for one thou, Rem/700/bdl /older 1970"s era rifle 24 inch bbl ,choise imr 4350 /59.0 gns ...125nosler partition,r-p case federal 215 primer , took this load out of noslers manual ,reloaded 100count 5/boxes of ammo for this rifle an owner,heard two yrs later from a friend the owner had shot two fantastic Bucks bac to bac for two deer seasons yardage 400 /440 ! Guessing the speed was 3170 ish had no crnograph back then! Bought my first 270wsm 24 inch bbl savage md 14 American Classic it will average 3180 easy with a 140 GN boat tail bullet , point is Modern technology easily builds a comparable /if not more efficient carthridge .got a MRI /Mtn/eagle 270 wcf rifle 24 inch bbl /Krieger ,cm/1/10 tw 130 tsx 3175 easy/150 boatails 3050 easy , now give them both 26 inch bbls and still , they improve ! Now did I put dwn the 264 ? While telling you other options? No that's the Point let's keep it fun & enjoyable thks and let the Goodtimes role , we pay for them Dearly yes ! Regards
The thread that keeps on going and going.....point of information. A friend has a 270 win with 24" barrel that shoots the 130 SST Hornady superformance load @ 3300 fps. I told him stick with it as I doubted we could duplicate that load.

Yes that propritary load of Hornady, should have chronographed 3100 plus did he shoot it in hi heat that would explain it Ps I'm a 270 Defender Extrodinar , Info all good thks
