Hoping I can get some input from the fellows on he re. I have a Cabelas Alaskan aluminum frame and harness. And am planing on going on a caribou hunt in Alaska this year. We will be doing the 5 mile hike in, necessary if rifle hunting. I will need to bring my sleeping bag, sleeping mat, food, rifle, clothing, etc. For a 3-4 day hunt. We will be splitting up the tent, stove, fuel, etc. Between 4 people. I am looking into getting some advice on what kind of pack someone would recommend for a backpack hunt. Something that will be strapped onto an aluminum frame. It doesn't need to have an internal frame, or if that works better let me know. We will be going the first week of September, north of the Brooks Range. Also, if anyone has done this hunt and have any advice please don't be shy and share. Thanks.:)

If I were in your position (and I wish I were because a backpack hunt for caribou in AK sounds awesome!) I would consider using a dry bag strapped to the frame for packing gear. You can get about any size you need and that waterproofness may come in handy.

Ended up buying an Alps bag. But had a smaller dry bag with a set of clothes inside the pack. A buddy used a big dry bag and just used para cord to tie the bag to his frame pack, worked real good.

I recently bought the same pack frame for my elk hunt this year. I will be using both a large dry-bag (for gear + extra space) and a medium (for clothing and sleeping bag) dry-bag as well.

Which Alps bag did you use?

How well did the system for you?

Re: Caribou Pack Hunting (Seek Outside packs)

GOOGLE "Seek Outside" and look at their packs. These packs are modular and easily convert to bare frame or other modes.

I like the quality of this company's gear.
