Starting a custom build and would be very grateful for recommendations on favorite, reliable, still in business, not in jail, gunsmith. Hopefully, I'm not violating any interpretation of terms or policy on the site. If so, a mod can tell me and I'll leave it. Just want somebody who's tack-sharp and professional about the smithing thing.

A lot depends on how patient you are, and how much individualization your project requires.
I'd start at the top of the page, and click on Long Range Rifles. I'd then go to the classifieds, and look for rifles by Kirby Allen, Defensive Edge, Rbros, many others, but that will at least give you an idea whose out there, and who knows maybe find what you want.

Where are you located? My preference always is to use a reputable smith within a 50 mile radius of me. There are most likely a number of good ones near you.

There are NO reputable smiths within 50 miles of me. There are barely any gun stores within 50 miles of me.
I've shot action pistol competitions on and off for a number of years. I know some **** good pistol smiths. I have shot with a couple of them, handled their guns, talked to other competitors who owned guns built or modified by these smiths. I do not personally know any smiths who specialize in accurate rifles. I know a few "general practitioners," I guess I would call them. The good ones tend to have long wait times because word gets out that they're good and everyone wants them to do work on their guns. When I come across one who can get to your job quickly, I wonder "Why isn't he busy?"
Being able to get something done quickly isn't always an indicator you aren't busy. One of the most important things when choosing a Gunsmith, or anyone in a service business, is to determine how well equipped he is to do the job you want done.

I feel there is a lot of good resource information and guidance on this site. With that said, I know of several awesome gun builders. Nate of SSG (Striaght Shot Gunsmithing) makes awesome guns and I own several. Dan Glover of Dans Custom Guns (sponsor on this site) makes some of the finest and most accurate rifles I have ever shot. Dan is also a personal friend of mine and I KNOW how meticulous he is on every detail. He has a fully functional shop, but more importantly he will take the time to discuss your gun, your needs and your components to ensure you end up with the best gun to fit your needs. You can read my article about the 338 Snipe tec Dan built me and how well it performed at a mile in the forums on this site. Dan shot with me that very cold and Windy day in Eastern NC, and it was amazing to see how that gun performed. As for wait time, if you want quality and a custom, most likely you will have to wait as components are still hard to get, certainly if you want customized options. I can't tell you who you need to deal with, but I can tell you that if you are on the fence about a build, you owe it to yourself to talk with Dan. Seeing a steel gong move at a mile is pretty darn cool.

I have all the pieces parts in mind (action, barrel maker, trigger, stock). What I'm looking for is somebody who could chamber the barrel and fit it to the action, crown and thread the barrel, install brake, and bed the action.
