im in the beginning stages of my load development for my .338LM and using 300gr accubonds. so far i cant get them to group for crap. my best 5 was around 1.1 at 100 yards. anyone have any good luck with these?

I never had any luck with them in a 338 Edge which I found odd because many other calibers and cartridges loved the ABs and were very accurate for me.

ive had many partitions and accubonds work very well in other calibers. im beginning to loose hope these bullets for this caliber.

I am shooting the 300 Accubond .010" away from the lands out of my 338 RUM using RL-33 and getting consistent 1/4 MOA accuracy at 2780 fps.

Generally speaking Accubonds have always shot pretty well out of all of my rifles, but I did get a bad box of .308 210 ALR's that would not shoot better than 1.5" out of a proven 1/4 MOA 300 win mag.

Have you tried shooting a different box/lot of 300 Accubonds?

i have yet to try another box but can as i bought a bunch of them. im using retumbo and was thinking of seating to .010 away from the lands instead of .020 which im at now. maybe even dropping my powder charge to 90 from 91

i see the rl33 is pretty popular. maybe i should get a can

I wish I had Retumbo, I can't find any. I like RL-33, but I don't think it's going to do anything for you over Retumbo, other than maybe a few fps. RL-33 has shown that it likes the bullet to be seated close as the pressure spike associated with a small jump gets the powder burning hotter and more consistent. That's never been an issue with Retumbo.

If I had to guess I would say you've got a bad box of bullets. Or have you tried any other seating depths? Maybe your barrel likes a jump out further around .050"??

I've tried .04 and .05 off the lands with 91 and 92 gr and the groups opened up worse. after that i figured closer would be better and may going to .01 and maybe dropping powder down to 90.

I'm wondering if the barrel is still breaking in too. I've got about 90 rounds down the barrel and I'm wondering if I'm coppered up again. ill give it a scrubbing and try .01 off the lands before i change to a different box

it might be worth trying the Berger Bullets seating depth test , I wouldn't be surprised if for whatever reason they may want more jump than you have tried so far

i have tried .040 and .06 away from the lands and those results were much worse. im starting to wonder if im running in circles here and have a fouled up barrel

maybe, I load at least 6 different accubond weights including the 338 300 gr in 4 calibers, 10 different guns and all have been fairly easy to get under moa most well under for three shot groups , have you tried shooting at 200 yards ?

i have yet to try 200 + yard with these loads. i will if i can cant get anything better then what im seeing now.

I was thinking that possibly they need some room or yardage to stabilize since they are a long bullet but honestly I really have not seen that with my savage 338L, you might have to get it checked out or try some different bullets some guns are finicky on what they like I guess I have been lucky to have not seen that much ,other than shooting bullets that were not correct for the barrel twist in a couple of guns

im running a 1/9.3 twist which from what i understand is perfect for the longer bullet.

im giving my rifle a good cleaning and try back again on Saturday morning
