Remington 700 5R Milspec 300 win WOW!

Having never owned a Remington (I had been faithful to Savage and Browning) I was really nervous when I took the leap and bought this gun. I spent weeks reading reviews, and was impressed by what I saw. But it was still a Remington, and I've read so many stories about bad quality control and accuracy issues.

Today my mind was put at ease. Took the rifle out to the range, not expecting too much. I had only one type of factory ammo, and figured I'd have to have some hand loads to get good accuracy. But this rifle flat out KNOCKED IT OUT OF THE PARK! I've posted my pics from the range; my best 3 shot groups at 100 and 200 yards (that's as far as I could get before it started pouring today). Ammo was 180 grain Hornady SST Superformance. By the way, my 100 yard group had 2 bullets go through the same hole!

Might not be everyone's ideal setup, but I absolutely love it! So glad I took the leap and tried Remington!

They are phenomenal optics. I have way too many guns to be that picky, although I wish I could afford to be.

Ill forgive you for not originally believing in Remington. Your thread reaffirms that I want a rem 700 5R in .308 win. Also, what is the purpose of the sight on top of the nightforce? Thanks for sharing.

Those 5Rs are some of the last good rifles Remington makes. Too bad that, typical of their recent marketing "genius", they don't make it in other calibers/chambering. Would buy one if they offered it in .260, .243; a 6mm Remington would be cool. Or how about some varmint offerings, to which the basic rifle is well-suited. Would be a bit of a coup if Remington brought them out in a fast-twist .22-250 or a 1:10 .204. In typical recent Remington stupidity, they stopped offering the similar VSSF in .220 Swift; they're now selling used in the $1500 range - sometimes more - when you can find one.

I bought the muzzle brake on Amazon and then installed it myself. And I can say in all honesty that when I shoot this thing it feels like I'm shooting a much smaller gun. There isn't hardly any recoil at all!

And the site on top of the Nightforce is a reflex site. It's for close range/ quick shots. I wanted to see if I could zero it and then if it would handle the recoil of this gun. And so far it kept it's zero.

And as far as the caliber offerings in this rifle....... I think Remington put more of a tactical spin on this rather than a hunting spin. Could be wrong but most reviews about these were on sniper forums.......

No matter how well made the firearm they still don't shoot all by themselves. They don't sight themselves on target, they don't squeeze the trigger. Let's see 5 five shot groups, preferably on one target.
