Weatherby Mark V extractor

Anyone out there have an extractor for a MK V in 378? Weatherby won't sell me the extractor without the serial #, which isn't a problem except it will be in the caliber the rifle was originally chambered in which does me no good, as it was never a 378.

That's strange, I order parts from them all the time and have not had them turn me down except for certain parts that they want to install themselves (Cocking pieces and parts that need to be installed buy there own gunsmith.

The reason they probably want the serial # is probably to make sure it is a Mark 5 action machined for one of the 378 based cases. If you want to use the 378 extractor on another action/bolt they wont sell you one because they want to fit the extractor themselves.

Just tell them you have a mark 5 in 378 and your smith needs to replace the broken extractor

The 30/378, 338/378, 416 Weatherby and the 460 Weatherby all use the same extractor if this helps.

I'll try them again and I'll see if they'll help.

I'm converting the rifle from a standard magnum to a Lapua, so even if I supply the serial # they will likely give me the extractor I already have.

The 378 Mark 5 extractor works perfect for the Lapua as is.

That's what I'm hoping if I can get my hands on one. The one I have would be for a 300 weatherby or 300 win mag and will not work unless I get very creative.

I called in the past about the same issue. No problems. They even said, open the bolt face and put the 378 extractor in.

Give them your SN. Then ask for the 378/Lapua extractor. They will sell you what you need. They just want to be sure it's not being resold for a huge profit. I think they enter it into the history of that receiver for a couple different reasons. I was invited to be a repair center for them but decided against it. I have no problem getting cocking pieces trigger or safety parts. I always have to supply the SN's though. The hard thing now days is a bolt body. Ruin or loose on of those and you might as well plan on buying a new rifle. When I ship a Weatherby bolt I insure them for $1400. On a custom they will insist it be restored to factory condition before they will fix it. Even bedding or an unauthorized brake and it's a new stock and barrel. Winchester/Browning/Sako and Ruger do this too.

The dimension Weatherby uses on the bolt face and extractors are identical for 378 and Lapua rounds.

Thanks for the responses gentleman. I called them back, gave the serial number and they gave what I was after. So it turned out much easier than I initially figured, thanks again.

That actually helps me A LOT! I had my MARK .338-.378 Weatherby extractor sheer off after having the rifle painted and getting my very first factory casing shot stuck and I tried to force it out (I might add, the Burnt Bronze paint he used is BEAUTIFUL. It matches the Tacmark Elite STOCK VERY WELL). My gunsmith must have gotten paint in the chamber and or throat because he used some kind of spray on stuff he'd never used bc my custom 32" Krieger barrel was too long for the oven. I wish my girl would tell me that! Lol.

Can I just order the extractor and install it myself? And how should I clean the excess paint from the chamber without damaging it? What do I use? Lastly, can anyone send me a link to the correct extractor/parts?

The shot was dead center on the bullseye of the plate if anyone's curious. It didn't seem to thtt try ow off the accuracy.?

I'm confused by a lot of this.
You're saying it's not Cerakote, but something else- because his curing "oven" wasn't long enough for that barrel?
You need to ask him what he used so an appropriate solvent can be selected.

Better yet, DIY or find another smith- an idiot would know to plug the bore (and the muzzle end) before spraying (not to mention sounds like he's curing barrels in a home oven?).

Hope you're right and it's not Cerakote in the chamber. If it is, it ain't coming off.
