Hey Guys,
I don't post on here a whole lot, but I kind of want to show off this build I just finished up. Here are the Specs:
-Barrel: Bartlein 26" Heavy Palma 1-9" twist. I had originally gotten this barrel for an F-T/R rifle but never ended up using it.
-Action: My own design. Its an aluminum and steel hybrid design, used the bolt from a Thompson Center Dimension. Picked it up at the local sporting goods store for $125. Barrel and action are coated with FDE Duracoat. Barrel tenon is standard Savage Large shank so I could use a Savage barrel nut.
-Trigger: Bold Optima Mauser trigger set at 2 pounds. I'm actually impressed with how good this trigger feels for only $50.
-Stock: Mcmillan A4 w/ the enlarged but Hook. Got a good deal on this as a "flat top" through a McMillan stock liquidator. I installed 2 flush cups on the left side, I should have put the back one on the right side. The stock is painted flat black.
-Muzzle Brake: Made it out of a piece of a hexagon shaft out of a combine. Its a 3 port design. Works pretty good, but could be better.
-Scope: For now, I just have a Millett 6-25x56mm on it. I got it for christmas a couple years ago and it's actually working ok. I shot at 710 yards earlier today and dialed the exact amount my AB app told me too and was hitting a 8" steel plate. Tracking seems to be pretty good so far.
My load right now is a 215 Hybrid over 75 gr of RL-26, COAL is 3.700". Average velocity was 2926 FPS, SD of 4 and ES of 12. These were measured with a Magneto Speed. I was pretty impressed with those numbers.
I had trouble getting it to group at first but it has come into it now. At 100 yards I have gotten 3 shot groups as small as 1/4 MOA and 5 shot groups running right at 1/2 MOA. At 710 yards this morning, I shot the 8" gong twice, vertical was right about 4" one right above the other. I also shot a milk jug, it hit right where I had the crosshairs. I'll try to get a couple pics of groups up tomorrow.
So far I'm pretty happy with how it has turned out, I only have like $800 into it. The finish has some scratches from a bunch of work I've done to it since I painted everything (kind of jumped the gun on painting stuff before I had everything up and running smoothly, I plan on repainting at some point), but all in all, I'm really liking it and the .300 Win Mag cartridgegun).
