Leupold scopes

I think I am getting it based off what you just said. The 6 factor is a multiplier not what I was thinking. I did go to there web-site and it was vague but you made it make sense. Thanks. Bob.

Can someone tell me the difference between a VX3 vs a VX6. What is the 6:1 mean with a VX6? Thanks. Bob.

Bob,

I have a VXIII 3.5-10x50mm (3 power zoom range) and a VX-6 3-18x50mm (6 power zoom range). Besides the greater 6x zoom range of the VX-6 (very nice), the glass is Considerably better with coatings that render a sharper FOV (field-of-view), has greater contrast\resolution, has superb color renditions and improved excellent low light capabilities. The VXIII is no slouch, but with the VX-6 you are paying for some of the best glass Leupold has yet produced!

I would like to hear back from some of you that have the Leupold VX6 3-18 X 50 mm scope. Looking at the photos on the website, it seems like the tube section that is forward of the turret area is extremely short (maybe 1.5")?? Does this pose any problems or limitations on mounting the scope on a rail type base?

I too noticed the "short tube area" in front of the turrets. However, it hasn't been a problem securely mounting the VX-6 to my SeeKins 20moa base. I'll be able to get some pics downloaded here of my install by end of next week!

If you get the chance I'd love to hear how well it tracks on the elevation....does 20 moa=20moa? Does it return to zero pretty well?

Also, how many MOA do you get in one revolution of the turret?

Here is a pic of the 3-18X50 mounted on a Sako L61R Finnbear. As you can see the rings are at the extremes on the scope.

I ran a box test at 100 yards with the 3-18X50 on my 7mm WSM shooting 180 Bergers. I shot, up 6 MOA, shot, right 5 MOA, shot, down 6 MOA, shot, back to zero and zero was dead on. The "box" was pretty much perfect but... I found the elevation accurate as marked and windage 12% low. Since I can't tell the difference between a 10 mph and a 9 mph wind with certainty I don't have a big problem with the windage being off but I will throw in an extra click per every 10. It seems to be repeatable and good return to zero. There is 20 MOA per rev.

Bryan,

Each revolution on the VX-6 3-18x50mm is 20MOA (75 total for elevation or windage). When I was working up my LR dope reloads, I mistakenly dialed up instead of down. After several shots being off the target, I realized my error. I redialed 20MOA for correction the other way and returned Dead On to my intented POI!

I have shot a 4 MOA block at 100 yds and returned to my exact zero, so I figured tracking is very accurate...certainly for my hunting needs!

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the info guys. It helped a lot with my decision. I think I'm going to get one in the near future. I had been pretty dead set on an NXS 2.5-10x42 moar HS/ZS but I think I'll give this one a try.

The NXS would be a great scope...lots of features. Depending on what you want it for, with 6x zoom, lighter weight, custom CDS, larger objective, excellent low light capability (especially on game), long eye relief and great glass (clear and sharp edge to edge), the simpler VX-6 could be a better value for you!

Great info in this thread on the VX6. Glad to hear it is tracking well. I'm considering the 3-18x50mm with the TMOA reticle.

Exactly what I was thinking. You pretty much hit on every point. Plus second hand price on the NXS is still above the Leupold new. So value is definitely there.

The only 2 questions I had on it (the tracking and the moa/rev) were answered on it. For most of my guns and shooting 20 moa will take care of me. 20 moa/rev keeps things simple in quick situations and ZeroLock would only add to the simple functionality.

Ideal combo for me would be the 3-18x44, tmoa, and CDS-ZL. If I'm correct the only combo they have with ZL now is the "wind ...." reticle. I can live with it but tmoa would be perfect.
