308 WIN Berger 210 gr VLD HSM Ammo

So I'm looking for a elk hunting bullet that bucks the wind really good and has high KE out pass 600-700 yards. I ran across the Berger VLD Match grade Hunting bullet. It's 210 gr 308 cal. The bullet has a .631 G1 BC. I also found a company HSM, who I've found to produce great cartridges, who loads the 210 gr Berger VLD Match Grade Hunting Bullet for .308 WIN. It has a muzzle velocity of 2508 and almost 3000 ft lbs of KE. Berger recommends a minimum of 1-11 twist for this bullet. I am shooting a Remington 700P 308 with a 26" 1-12 twist barrel.

My question to all is (A) has anyone shot this bullet out of a 1-12 twist barrel and how did it preform? (B) would the bullet still have enough barrel and twist rate to stabilize? (C) does anyone know of a comparable bullet for 308 elk hunting at long range?

I've been loading the 210's for my .308 for several years now. They shoot great, but you most likely won't be able to stabilize them in a 1:12 twist. You'll be limited to about a 185gr bullet with your twist. If you had a 1:11 or 1:10 you'd be ok.

What do you consider LR? I love the .308 Win, but I wouldn't be elk hunting with a .308 beyond 500 yards. If farther than 500, but max 1000, I'd step up to a 7mmRM, 7mm STW, .300 WinMag, or .300 Weatherby.

Do a custom search on the right hand corner for MontanaMarine's posts on .308 Win and Berger VLDs ... IIRC, he even shoot the 215s out of his .308 Win with 1:12".

Elevation has ALOT to do with that. We're 500' ASL here, so no way a 210 or 215 will stabilize in a 12" twist...

I know that, but what might NOT work or apply to you might for the OP.
