7SAUM and Berger 168gr VLD Hunting Bullet... What powder?

My 700 does have a 24 inch barrel. I don't know if the IMR-7828 will work as well in your gun as it does in mine, however since you have IMR-4831 I would give that a try before you go searching for some other powder. The Hodgdon web site lists the data for these powder and you will only find which works best for you by trying them.

I'm following this thread too. With the powder shortage I have to use what I have. Canada is a tough place to get powder. I have H1000, H4831sc, and IMR 4350. Thinking of trying IMR 4350 first. Anyone use this with 7 saum on here?

Yes it's tough to find powder in canada... I've tried the IMR 4350 and it seems to work good with the 140 gr TSX BT's that I was shooting... I was getting just over 1/2" groups with it using 57.3 grns... But haven't tried it with the 168 VLD's yet..

If you can't find a good load with H1000 or H4831 in a saum then I would give up.
Both go to powders.

My load is 63.3grns of H1000 and 168vlds, 2900fps. This load gives very consistent spreads and regularly shoots 1" at 300m.
I have have a mild load for 145grn speer with Vit N160 that shoots 1/2 moa. Worth trying if you not chasing max velocity.

I shot 168vlds and Retumbo. Longest elk kill was 1320.

LD- i have used varget in my 300 short with great results. i may be able to 50fps with something else but accuracy is most important.
