Savage 116 Weather Warrior or 111 Long Range hunter in 7mm rem?

Hi guys.

starting a new subject. thanks by the way on the 338 Lapua info.

I need more opinions.

I will also be buying a rifle for my son. he wants something in 7mm Rem. I will be sticking with Savage. I have worked the options down to either the 116 Weather Warrior or the 111 Long Range Hunter. I already have the scope for the rifle...SWFA SS 3-15.
He already has a nice older winchester Model 70 Featherweight in 30-06 but would like a flatter shooting long range rifle. I will buy it for him for a surprise. should be fun.

anyway....anyone have any experiences with either of these 2 rifles? which would you get if given the choice and why?

your input is greatly appreciated!

No experience with those particular rifles, but if you need any loading tips or info, let me know. My primary deer rifle is a 7mm RemMag.

I had a 300 WSM in the Long Range Hunter and it was a very accurate gun for out of the box. 7/16 at 300 yards was my best group, but no more than 1 1/16

I have a son shooting a savage LRH and have helped a couple of guys who bought the weather warriors.

I am a Savage supporter but I will no longer recommend any savage rifles that have clip fed unless they are only going to shoot factory ammo. If you want to play at longer distances, more than likely you start shooting the heavier bullets for caliber,playing with your oal etc. and herein can cause the problem. You are maxed out on your OAL at the limit of the clip. One guy I helped decided that the difference in accuracy was such that here's chose to just use it as a a single feed.

he will be using factory ammo. he does not reload. I am the reloader in the family but my son and I live in different states. I am getting rifles for the both of us so we can do at least yearly interesting hunts in various parts of the country. father/son bonding.
so he will not have issues with the removable box magazines.

as for me, I tend to load long cartridges with bullets just off the lands...so I end up using the rifle as a single shot.

as for these 2 rifles most of my concerns tend to be more toward the 111 LRH. the 116WW seems like a solid platform. I like the idea of the 111 just not sure of the adjustable muzzle brake and it's potential problems and also I hear complaints of the mags not being metal. I have not had the opportunity to handle the 111 LRH so I can't make a first hand decision. I have seen the 116 and I did find that it is a very nice rifle.

As far as the adjustable muzzle brakes on the LRH. If they work I can't tell the difference on the 2 rifles I have been around other than noise -6.5x284 and 308. My son's has a tendency to become "stuck" after a number of firings. If you want to use it you had best keep it clean. He doesn't even mess with it anymore - when he hunts he just closes it and tapes the bore and brake. I see no reason to buy the LRH because it has that adjustable brake.
