I finally convinced my brother that a 30-06 would better suit him for 1000 yard bench shooting than a unbraked sporter 300 win mag. Anyway he picked up some 178 amax but he couldn't find any of the 4350's so i told him to pick some RL 17 to try. It was the only one on the shelf that i thought might work. My problem is i cant seem to find a minimum start load to max load. Has any body have this info.. Thanks

It looks like 54.5grs is the max load for a 180gr bullet according to Alliant's website. I'll have to dig into my Hornady manual later today and see if there is a recommendation.

My hornady manual doesn't list RL17 for the 30-06, however it comes right below IMR and H4350 on the burn rate chart. I wouldn't be too shy about using the load data for either. Minimum load for IMR 4350 is listed at 46.7 and max at 54.5

I have had good luck with superformance in the 30-06 if you can get your hands on some.

Thanks, I wonder why Hornady list the max load as 54.5 and others list it at 56.5. Must be rifle and components they use. I run 56.5 (IMR4350)with the 178 I went as far as 58gr. With no pressure. I started his RL 17 load at 52.5 and went to 54.5 in .5gr increments. I hope we find a good load it seems,IMR 4350 dried up for now around here anyway. I wonder if it has something to do with the dock worker strike. Im not sure where the IMR 4350 is made.

I have always taken 30-06 and 270 printed loads with a grain of salt. Too many lawyers involved in publishing these days. I believe these cartridges in particular are listed lighter due to their use in actions of weaker design like the Remington pumps.

Not sure what the deal is with 4350. Seems to be regional though as I picked up 3 lbs last Friday and have seen it on the shelves quite frequently around here.

I agree completely, I'm able to exceed listed max 30-06 loads very often with no apparent signs of pressure. I was able to pick up IMR 4350 anytime i wanted it. I have five pounds on hand, but wasn't coming off any until I was sure I could get more. It could be I wasn't there at the right time. Anyway i figured he could find a good load with RL 17. if so it seems to be plentiful..
