Deer rifle for my wife???

Ok so my wife just got the itch to get a rifle and I was looking at the savage 11/111 long range hunter in the 6.5 creedmoor but was wondering what everyone's thoughts were on this rifle? It will be used for deer most of the time but would like the option for going after elk with her next year in colorado?

Ive never shot that rifle but I hear its a shooter though. Ive yet to see a 6.5 Creedmoor that hasnt been a shooter. Browning is making some nice 6.5 Creedmoors right now if she doesnt mind a target style rifle. I own a Ruger predator 6.5 Creedmoor and its a solid 1/2 moa gun. It will do under that closer to 1/4 moa if i do my part. Im still trying to find that perfect load for it I definitely wouldnt hesitate pulling the trigger on that savage though, I was actually in a toss up between that savage and the rifle I have now but i went with the ruger because i liked the looks much better. The creed is fine for deer bear and even elk as long as its kept in a reasonable range. If your wife just likes to shoot at targets as well then you cant go wrong with it. If you dont reload then its really the best choice, hornadys ammo shoots lights out and is affordable. The recoil is also almost nothing and its inherently a very accurate round.

Ya I do re-load but I love the idea of factory ammo just in case something happens when we do travel! She is a bit small in frame for most rifles so I thought this 6.5 would be a good start! Now since we are in California I'm not worried about our deer but what would you say the range would be on say an mule deer or an elk?

Well im not an elk hunter but id say no more than 600 with the proper placement. I saw a guy with grey bull precision on you tube shoot one over 600 yards with the Creed and it didnt go any where. For mulies about 700-800 would be all id want to shoot with that round. My sister shot her first whitetail when she was 9 with my dads Creedmoor and she had no problems shooting under inch groups from the bench with it her first time out. She is just a little thing too. So its a great starter rifle for smaller framed people or people who just dont like recoil.

my wife is rather small framed and she's got a devil of a time getting up on the optics on my full size rifles... She also needs some weight reduction from the 8-10# rifles I carry. So far I've only really been able to get her shooting pistols because of this (she doesn't want me to buy a rifle just for her); be wary of the lady that can handle a 44mag though.

My wife has one in .243. It fits her well and is very accurate. Someday I will probably rebarrel it to 6.5 Creed. It would be awesome in 6.5 Creed with high BC bullets!

That is an excellent choice, however keep in mind it is a little heavy and has a full LOP.

I had one in 300WSM and sold it. Stupid stupid stupid since it would shoot 7/16 inch groups a 300 yards.

I have the Max 1 Predator in the Savage and it is also a great shooter. 1/2 to 5/8 inch groups with Hornady 140 grain factory loads. Half of that with hand loads.

Also, recoil is very very manageable.

My wife has a Savage lady Hunter in 6.5 Creedmoore that she like a lot. It fits good and it shoots great. There is no question on the 6.5 CM "getting er' done" on whitetail.

Right on everyone thanks for the advice! She looked at the rifle and is not the biggest fan of the wood stock because lol "it dosent match her bow"! But I was wondering with only haven a 20in barrel should I take a look at something els other than 6.5 creedmoor?

Been there!! My daughter is now looking for bows that match her rifles! All the Lady hunters I've ordered have been 270's but a guy should really research the Creedmore, I have not built one so really don't have any solid info.

Getting the stock hydro dipped to what every her heart desires may as long as the fit is perfect would be a good work around.

Could look at one of the cheaper Savages in Creed with a 22" barrel and then replace the stock with a custom draw length that fits.

Ya I just like the idea of the 6.5 cuz from what I understand it has the energy of a 270 at 500 yards but much less recoil! And I also like the idea that it's capable of shooting 500 yards! This is only cuz with going out of state it's a nice option to have being able to shoot a bit further than most!
