I bought a new mossberg 500 and did a lot of reading like everyone else does on what sabot slug to shoot out of it for the best results my choices were
Winchester Supreme Partition gold sabot slugs in 385 gr 2 3/4 12ga 1900fps
Remington premier copper solid sabot slug 12 ga 2 3/4 1400fps
Hornady SST 300gr FTX slug 12ga 2 3/4 2000fps
I started with the winchester and went thru 4 boxes ($60) trying to get on paper first and then trying to get a good group the best I could do was about a 5-6 inch group at 100yds Not what I was looking for.
Next I tried the remington and they hit the paper about 15 inches low compared to the winchester and the grouping was all over the 8x11 paper target these got a big rassberry from me but alot of people say they have had good luck with them.
then I tryed the hornadys first shot was about 8 inches high off the target so I adjusted the scope second and third shots were almost touching about 1in right
I adjusted the scope and the third shot was a bullseye touching shot. Unbelievable what a difference there is in sabots for different guns, so its a trial and error to find the best slug for each different gun.
All shots were made at 100yds from a bench and bags with a nikon slughunter 3x9 with BDC scope.

I know a lot of guys shooting 12 gauge slugs and the sst is the most popular.
I don't know anyone having good luck with 2-3/4 partition golds.
3" partition golds are usually just as accurate and fast as the sst depending on the gun but imo have better terminal performance at all ranges.

My friends and I have tried about every slug on the market out of many guns and all of us are using either sst or 3" partition gold.

At very close range the bullet explodes like a varmint round and do not penetrate well. However, most shots further than about 40-50 yards they do a very good job killing deer out to around 200 yards. Just don't shoot a shoulder blade at 10 yards and you will like them.

Shot this ten point at about 90 yards with the sst first shot was in the sholder the second shot was in the side it went about 60 yds and dropped. The slugs stayed together and the shot to the side passed thru the slug in the shoulder expanded very nice and did not fragment any and when it hit the deer it almost knocked it over sideways.

I believe you are missing one important slug the Remington accutip. As one who shot sst s for a few years. I hot better results in not only accuracy but bullet performance in both my shotguns. Now with that said my 870 hates 3 inch and loves the 2 3/4. But still only shoots slightly better than with hornady. My hr shoots the 3 in best cloverleaf at 100 yards, same gun sprays hornady. So i would urge you to try them and please update with results always curious how things work in different guns. Good luck.

I have the mossberg 500 in 20ga. it's not my goto gun, I got it cause of the good deal I got on it and to have for family and friends to use, for the money the 500 is a good blue collar shotgun and accurate, I use Remington AccuTips 3" in mine.

The Hornady SST 2-3/4" I have used in 20ga with my H&R Ultra Deluxe both shots where at 80 yds both neck shots. One was a spike here in NJ, the other was a 130" 10 pt from Illinois

I have hunted Ohio off and on since 1987 and I have been using the Remington Accu-tips with the 385gr and it has been working well for me the last few years in a Moss 500.....Actually very impressed with the accuracy and knockdown power out to about 185-200 yards..I killed a doe about 150 with it and hits in the front should right where I aimed, and I got a nice 8pt with it out about 120 in the neck this year..Both dropped in their tracks.....

OH went to straight walled cartridges this year and it went well, so, I'm hopin they will open up all rifles in the near future so we can get better range that has cost me some bigger bucks that I have seen but went against taking and 250- 700 yard shot like I have many times in WV.

Isn't that the truth wish I could use a rifle here in lower Michigan. I guess to many dumb people shooting and not knowing the bullet may go past the intended target.

Yes sir, many states treat the hunters like children in many ways in the name of the poachers or stupid people....Ohio does it with the Rifles and West Virginia does it with the Crossbows...You can't hunt with a Crossbow in the WV unless you have a permission slip from the Dr, and then sends it to the state for their permission for folks with disabilities to use one.....Incredible...I have heard so many people here suggest that crossbows are just ""HIGH POWERED" Rifled bows....Figure that one out.....LOL

Other than it's not even in the same ballpark as they claim. My question back to them has always been...Why do you care if I hunt with a Xbow if isn't affecting your hunt with a "HIGH POWERED" Compound bow?...What's funny is when the compounds came out the "tradionalist" recurve hunter were saying the same thing lol ..The most I get is it isn't "fair" or "it will hurt the deer herd population"......lol....Man, where do these guys come up with this stuff.....None of that is even coming close to being true....That's like saying we need to stop using rifles because it isn't fair to the folks who can only afford to use a slug gun.....Incredible....
