I hate to do it but I am putting up the first rifle I ever bought with my own money to fund a custom build. This rifle was ridiculous when I bought it for hunting whitetails in Georgia but it just spoke to me. It is a 1998 Remington Sendero SF in 7mm STW, which had just been introduced in Remington rifles. Of all places to find it, it was in my local Wal-Mart. It sat there for about 3 months while I looked at other gun shops convinced I could find a better price. I couldn't even find another one anywhere in Georgia. Of course, there was was a reason I couldn't find another one in Georgia: it was a BEAST at the time. I spent a lot of the money I earned working in the cantaloupe field that summer but she was mine.
Anyway, I purchased the rifle in August of 1998 brand new. I loved it. It was different from anything else anyone had and always got compliments. It also simplified "long range" hunting since 500 yards was unheard of for hunting whitetails then. "Just hold it a foot and a half over their back and pull the trigger!" Well, I never missed a deer with it but never had to shoot past 125 yards. Every deer I shot was dead right there. Other than 3 deer, I have shot it less than 60 times. I think I still have every box of ammo I shot through it and the vast majority of the brass. I think I also have 2 boxes of brand new factory ammo that I would include with the rifle.
The rifle is in pristine condition. It was always kept in either a case or a safe and never saw any rough conditions. I would dare say it is the most pristine 1998 STW you could find. Nonetheless, the Remington museum isn't calling for it and I hate to see it just sitting in a safe when I know it longs to be back home, out West, performing. I have gotten older and wiser since high school and have a perfect whitetail rifle in mind but this has to go first. Help a brother out! I would like to get $1,200.00 for the rifle and the ammo. I will add pictures as soon as I can. Thanks for looking.

Hey Dennis,
It's getting late here but I grabbed some quick photos. Maybe they will show you what you want to see. Disregard the super nice Simmons & Bender scope. It was meant as a temporary measure but it actually worked and I never bothered to change it with the limited shooting I was doing. And no, I did not shoot that sailfish with it. Underwater ballistics are beyond me.

It's a shame you're not interested in any non-weapons related trades... I would sure love to have a twin to the one I bought new when I was in high school in 2002. Shoot me a PM if you are interested in any type of trades.

My story is pretty much the same as yours, except I special ordered mine while I was working at the gun shop, and it sat in the back until I paid for it in full (still have the original box and all the paperwork up in the attic). The owner was a nice guy, and he'd let us do layaway on expensive stuff like guns, bows, and scopes. We'd just keep the money in an envelope in his safe with our name on it and put more in it when we got paid, and that's how we kept up with the payments. LOL

Mudrunner, that is an awesome story. I bet it was tough just seeing it sitting there while you were paying it off. I know I dreaded walking into Wal Mart and finding it gone. It literally towered over all of the other rifles they had and I just knew someone else was going to walk in and buy it. You clearly understand my attachment to this rifle. They are beautiful and I admire Remington's chutzpah in introducing it in the STW back then. If it does not sale fairly quickly, it may open my mind to the possibility of trades.

Oh yes, I have had a reverent ferver for them ever since I saw my first Sendero SF. I have had what some might call an "obsession" towards them, and it all started with a Sendero SF in 7mm STW. :D

I now have 3 Sendero SF's (.25-06 AI, 7mm STW, and .300 Ackley), an original Sendero (7mm STW), and a Varmint (.30-06 AI).

I am a bit of a Sendero enthusiest.

Let me know, I would be very happy to have a set of twins, and a 4th Sendero SF to add to the collection. Atleast you would find peace in knowing it would be going to a good home, where it would be appreciated and never be sold. It would remain in my collection till the day I died, same as my other guns.
