I pulled the 1:9 twist barrel over a year ago to re-barrel with a faster twist. It was still shooting just fine and dandy, but I didn't feel comfortable shooting 105 Bergers through my suppressor with a barrel that wasn't as fast as Berger recommends. They flew strait, and were not tumbling...but that doesn't mean that I wouldn't get one that wobbled some day, especially shooting in frigid winter hunting temps. I bore scoped it in Spearfish when I took it off and I had roughly 5/8 of erosion and about 3" of fire cracks. I still have it (the barrel) but plan to cut the chamber off, and rechamber it to a 6x45 with a carbine gas system, so I'm not going to just waste it. Those rounds were using almost all 75gr Vmax going relatively slow for the weight...only about 3200 fps, so I see no reason why 105 Amax going the same speed won't yield similar barrel life. There are MANY documented instances of a barrel leaving the facility without the barrel being chrome lined. Before the WSSMzone.com got closed down for spam...there were many knowledgeable individuals there that found more than a few factory rifles that slipped out the doors without chrome. It happens. There were many more that had plenty of documented round counts and bragging rights for their accuracy. Many were custom builds, but not all of them. Mike and Dedicated Technologies is well known for producing some of the most accurate WSSM AR15's in the nation and that's why I went to him for my re-barrel job. I'm still working up a loads for it, but I'm excited to see how it will shoot. My cousin runs a custom built 6XC in a Rem 700 and THAT baby can shoot...but I'm expecting to do AS GOOD, with my gasser.
