I would like to know everyoones Opinions of laminated Wood Stocks?

    Which brand?

Better than wood? good as McMillin or Manners?

I found a New Boyds at a gun show yesterdaay in a 700 SA blind it has plllars and it had been glassed looks to be inlet for a bout about a # 5 or 6. Im wanting for a 260 build.

I had one smith say all laminates were trash because the resins were worse than natural wood for hot and cold movment.

Others have told me thay are every bit as good as a McMillin or Manners.

Let mk know what you think

    Thanks DL

Ignore that advice. Find a different smith.

There is really only one major downside to a good laminate, as far as I know and have read about:

    They are heavy.

They are heavier than most all other stocks. The wood is compressed and the resin weights a ton.

To me, they are a quick way to make a good looking heavy gun, that shoots well, at a decent price. But I like wood, even if its been basterdized....

ACCURATE INNOVATIONS makes one of the better lam. stocks. I like/use them, very stable , from Alaska wet to desert hot/dry. And they look great. First stock of ANY kind that was 100% drop in, on the few that I have.

If you want something really special, get a hold of Joel Russo here on the forum. He makes custom laminate stocks that are beautiful. Pick your style, pick the wood\colors, tell him what action and barrel countour and he makes it custom. On mine, he even offset the action inlet to my specifications for bedding purposes.

I picked up a laminated stock from stocky's on sale a few months ago for something like $200++ and am really pleased with it.

I have Boyd Thumbhole Varmint stocks on 17 Fireball, 221 Fireball, and 223 Rem bolt action rifles. I glass bedded the actions with about two inches of the barrel. I have not had any problem with them.

That "gunsmith" doesn't know what he is talking about. Laminates are much better than wood, hands down. Cant argue the point, its fact. just look at plywood compared to dimensional lumber of the same thickness. one moves a lot, the other doesn't.

Fiberglass on the other hand is better than both but... a lot more money for minimal gain. Don't get fiberglass confused with synthetic, they are VERY different. Most synthetics are injection moulded crap.

Got to agree 100%!!!! Everything I've got is laminate!!(as far as my rifles) I've got older shotguns that were handed down in the family that have wood an I'm not gonna change them! Leave the synthetic alone! Just my 2cts!!
