I've ordered a new rifle and it's being built now. and I decided to select a 6.5-284 Norma. While it's being built I've begun acquiring dies, powder, brass and bullets.

It may be a bit late for me to make this discovery, but 6.5 bullets are 6.7 mm in diameter. It seems odd to me to call it 6.5 when it measures 6.7. Can someone explain?

I don't guess it makes that much difference, since it's just a name, but seems odd to me. Am I overlooking something?

All 6.5 bullets are .264 inches in diameter, next up the line are the .270 group which are .277 in diameter... Maybe someone just rounded the .264 up to .270...I don't think I ever saw anything ever marked .270 cal anywhere....take a picture of the label or tell us what company to look under ??

Bore -vs- Groove, .257 -vs- .264
And you're right, it makes no sense, along with many other ballistic contradictions..

It also makes no sense that we would have to choose from ~800 different spark plugs, ~300 different oil filters, and that Dodge rims don't fit Chevy.

Lazzeroni has a better (closer) application/use of MM to inch conversion of their proprietary cartridges ...

6.53 (.257) Scramjet
7.21 (.284) Firebird
7.82 (.308) Warbird
8.59 (.338) Titan
9.53 (.375) Saturn
10.57 (.416) Meteor
