Kevin- i loaded .308 for my dad's sako mannlicher( it is actually an H&R with a douglas barrel). it is very accurate and only weighs 6.5 pounds . i used a 165 spbt and 4895 because this was pre varget and re-15. i do not have a 308 but have loaded for a few others and used I-4064. i found it very easy to find a good load. just like you said i your post. also i have had similar good "luck" with the 300 win mag. i have loaded for my two plus four others. i have settled on powder for the 300 though. i have a small stash of brass ( at least enough to keep my two going ) grin ! grin!
