I've read everything i can read on the subject and I'm still confused a little.
Some say any mag bolt face 700, some say the RUM action is best.
I'm thinking of putting one together with a prefit, and other than lapping the lugs and some bolt work, I'm not planning on doing much else to the action. I don't want to have to cut anything to get it to feed if I don't have too. I can find plenty of 300 win mag donor rifles but I don't ever see a RUM around here.
Also, what do you guys use on the tenon threads? Grease? Plumbers dope?
What about something to tighten up the fit some on the threads feel kinda sloppy? I would think plumbers dope would make everything "feel" tighter, not sure if it's beneficial but…
I've heard of Teflon tape used.
I've had some barrels screw on like they were made the same day as the action by the same guy. Then I've had some that I didn't even trust to center up with the action.
