What OAL in your factory Rem 700, 300 RUM\'s?

Hello, I just got 500rnds of Federal RUM brass, and am itching to load some of it up. My gun is at the smith getting a holland brake installed, so I wont have it for 3 weeks.

I want it to feed from the mag, (it's a rem 700 cdl)

my nosler book is saying 3.6" OAL, but do you guys load longer than that? i am loading up 180 BT's, some 200 AB's, and some 220 SMK's?

any info would be appreciated..thanks

I load my 338 RUM to 3.650" in my M700LSS.

load to whatever the limiting factor is on your own gun. might be the magazine, might be the rifle lands.

Re: What OAL in your factory Rem 700, 300 RUM\'s?

so you're saying wait till I get the rifle back before loading, so I can check the lands?
I have the magazine so I know that dimention, but the barrel is at the smiths. Don't the factory barrels have the lands set out a ways?

thanks for the inof guys..

Re: What OAL in your factory Rem 700, 300 RUM\'s?

I was under the impression that the magazine only supports up to 3.6" OAL. I load at 3.65" and I cant fit them into the magazine. I don't have the rifle in front of me as I am at work but i'm pretty sure 3.6 is the max.

Re: What OAL in your factory Rem 700, 300 RUM\'s?

I load a 220g SMK at 3.725" Not even close to mag length.

Re: What OAL in your factory Rem 700, 300 RUM\'s?

thanks, do you guys hunt without them fitting in your mag? or are these your target loads?
I don't mind them not fitting at all, except that it would be nice for hunting just in case you needed a follow up shot..
thanks

JD,

Can you reach the lands on that 338 RUM with any bullet?

Am rigging one up to shoot single shot and want to seat Sierra 250s or WC 252 w/the front of the boat tail at the base of the neck and wonder if there is still some "jump" to the rifling??

Also, have any loads that you would recommend......

Re: What OAL in your factory Rem 700, 300 RUM\'s?

Roy,

With a 225 gr Nosler AB in a fire formed case, I am hitting the lands with a COL of 3.884" That puts the base of the bullet approx. at the bottom of the case neck.
My magazine will max out at 3.692" and my hunting loads are at 3.650".

Here is my load data:

200 gr Nosler BT
RL22 90.0 grs
best 3 shot group @ 100 yds .325"

210 gr Nosler PT
RL22 90.0 grs
best 4 shot group @ 100 yds .425"

225 gr Nosler PT
RL22 89.5 grs
best 3 shot group @ 100 yds .450"

225 gr Nosler AB
RL25 96.0 grs
best 3 shot group @ 100 yds .587"
COL was 3.600", will try 3.650" to improve group.

250 gr Nosler PT
RL25 90.0 grs
best 4 shot group @ 100 yds .490"

Hope this helps you out.

Re: What OAL in your factory Rem 700, 300 RUM\'s?

Roy,

I just noticed a typo. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

210 gr Nosler PT
RL22 90.0 grs
best 4 shot group @ 100 yds .425"

Charge weight should be 92.0 grs RL22

My notes also indicate a 1.285" 3 shot group at 300 yds,
2 shots were 0.590".
Also, all these Nosler bullets are factory seconds.

Sorry for the confussion. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

For hunting bullets, with plastic tipped, my OAL is 3.660" for my 300 RUM to reliably feed from magazine. For target bullets, SMK's they are at 3.750", for my 210g bergergs, they are at 3.8" The smks and bergers are single shot only.
