What kind of hawk is this?

    Looks like a young redtail just molting out into adult feathers...but I'm not sure. Now I have a friend that's a falconer...but lives far away from me. I'll see what I can figure out.

    It would help to know where it is at and the time of the year, btw.

    Looks like a Cooper's Hawk but could be a Sharp Shinned Hawk.

    Most people have said Cooper or Red Shouldered.

    Not a Red Shouldered Hawk. No red shoulders a and too many bands on the tail for a Western RS.

    my expert friend says "coopers hawk" for sure.
