First brand new rifle I ever bought. It was a “custom” and I use/refer lightly to the clown that built it. I went in wanting a 25-06, came out with a 270 after a few months wait. Wrong barrel, varmint but he cut me some slack….. came home (100 miles), mounted scope and off to the range. Third round, blew a primer in factory ammo, some measuring and headspace was the issue. More trips down and back, now am pretty sour on the smith and the rig, but to many miles and time to back out. Finally thought it was done…………the next fall it was all over the place, screws were all tight. Pulled the action and the bedding and pillars were a mess. Plowed all that garbage out, didn’t like what I found. LOTS of mistakes or was intended for a different action. More shooting and after about 5 rounds groups opened, yet with a cleaning they went right back, who shoots at a deer more than twice at the most. I had so much time in it was why I kept it so long, about five years. Looking back I should have clubbed the smith with it and done me and a lot of others a favor. One up swing to the whole ordeal, I learned a lot. I never was a 270 fan, got my 25-06 mountain rifle and quite happy ever since. I did buy another 270 years later from cabelas as a donor action. Out of curiosity me and my shooting bud loaded it with some 150’s, after having the 130’s and 4831 shoved down our throats for so long. R26 and a 150, was a true eye opener. We ran everything over the chrono, it thinks it wants to be a 7 mag.
