Pick a powder, bullet, and primer combo, that has a good track record, and it is just a matter of finding the sweet spot in seating depth, and you are there.
My " standard" load has always been, and still is 79.3-RL 22-140, with Federal 215. Bullet choices vary, in the 140 class, to 140 CT, BT, or of recent, 140 TSX. My best load with 140 weight bullets is with the CT bullet. Deadly accurate, deadly on target as well. I have been doing some experimenting with 154 Hornady spire points, and let me tell ya, these things shoot very well. I have also been experimenting with RL25, and so far I like it. As we all know, RL 22 is very temp sensitive. So far, the 25 dosen't seem to be AS sensitive as 22. I haven't finalized anything yet. I will be doing lot of shooting here pretty soon with two STW's that I haven't really worked out a load for, except the preliminary loads that I shot in the spring when I got them. I have a custom gun that I built in the spring, and a Winchester Sharpshooter as well. I didn't shoot them much after that, because the hot weather came, and I didn't spend much time with them in the summer, knowing that my hunting load was going to change when the temps cooled down. I have had good luck also with 7828, but usually reserve it for bullet weights between 140-150. After that, you can do better with a slower powder, and get better velocity, and less pressure. Also, 7828 isn't as temp sensitive either. The 7 mm STW isn't finicky to load for. Pick a powder, bullet, and primer combo, that has a good track record, and it is just a matter of finding the sweet spot in seating depth, and you are there. Back off on the full length die just a bit, and that helps brass life, and chamber fit. Good luck to all, and be safe in your loading habits.
