Hi guys ! Im still a newbie about all this long range stuff so go easy on me. Ive been looking for some long range turrets for my nikon monarch scopes. One is a 3-12 X42SF on a 6mm-06 and the other is a 4-16 x50SF on a 300wsm, both are semi-custom savages. I looked on the nikon website and they list 2 sets, 1/4 & 1/8 clicks as accesories, but there is no mention anywhere else on there site. Ive also looked at the kenton website and they apparently only make them for the monarch target scopes. I tried to call nikon last week and was on hold forever ! Going to try kenton this week but I thought I would see what the experts here think.
Also, Im in the process of having a 6.5wsm built and looking for a scope for that. If I cant find turrets for a monarch, (was going to buy another 4-16 x 50SF) what would be a good alternative scope with the long range turrets for around $500.00. Thanks in advance for the help !! J.R.

You are in luck! Nikon just debuted a new custom turret. These will be cal./bullet wt./MV specific and make it a snap to dial in your shot to the the measured distance.
    Check them out.

I had Kenton make an moa turret for a Nikon Titanium. I would avoid the ballistic type turret simply because you can not change loads or atmospheric conditions. If you are staying under 500yrds it will probably be fine.

Hi I am contemplating putting ballistic turrent on my Nikon Monarch 4x16x50 BDC that's on my Remington 700 300 RUM. I would like to be able to dial in a distance vs guess with the BDC recticle. I understand that the ballistic turrent is caliber/load specific and Ive used the spot on website to calculate the circle recticle for the distance based on my load (180 grain barnes TSX) The two questions I don't have answers to are

    1) will I be able to shoot farther with the Ballistic turrent? ( the Leupold equivent has a 800 yd max)

    2) how much difference will atmospheric differences play?

Chi, The Custom Turret usually does off greater distance then the BDC reticle. With the .300 RUM you would choose the 200 yard zero with the high turret's and it will give you 930 yards. Pretty long shot especially if there is wind.
As for atmospheric condition's affecting your shot. I would suggest going into Spot On and changing the atmospheric condition's to the extreme's you might encounter while hunting. From temp., elevation and humidity, see what change's you get in bullet drop. I hope this help's? Please drop me a note if you have other question's.

I wouldn't under estimate the accuracy of Nikon's BDC reticle. I have shot 4 inch jar's of Tannerite with stock rifles to 600 yards and harvested a KS doe this past winter at 586 yards,my longest shot while hunting. I know for some that doesn't mean a lot, but a lot of factor's to take into consideration when making a longrange shot, especially when you are planning a 1 shot stop.

This question is for Bart, and I don't want to hi jack the thread, but I have a Monarch 6.5-20 UCC model, and have it on one of my STW's. ( love it ) Can I get custom turrets for that one? I'm shooting a 145 grain bullet with a BC of .486 @ 3440 fps. Thanks in advance!

7STW, I did some checking on the Custom Turret website and that is not a scope that we offer a Custom Turret for. Good to know since I have 2 and was planning on using one for my .257 WbyMag.

Bart, I am building a custom 280 as we speak, and will be in the market for another scope, as I am going to be doing some swapping when it arrives. But that is going to leave me needing another scope. I have gotten very fond of the Monarch series, so IF you do have a special on them, I may be interested. Sorry to hear that no turrets avail for the UCC.
I had a 6-18 BDC, and traded it, as after awhile, I found the view a little busy, and when I decided to dial it, I forgot to rezero, then used the BDC reticle, and was really messed up. Never could figure why they put turrets on a BDC type reticle. Anyway, very good optics, and parallax was dead on. ( Buckmasters )

I checked out the site. Looks like a good deal. I do have a question for you though. I have a Nikon Monarch 4-16x50SF. When filling out the order for a turret it ask if you want the short or tall turret. The tall turret gives you longer range settings. My scope has the short turrets but I'd rather have the tall elevation turret.. Can I order the tall turret for it and will it work on my scope? What is involved in changing it and does it come with the turret cap to fit?

    Thanks for the info.

Nim, You can order the tall turret for your scope. It is easy to replace too. There was a video turorial on how to do it, I think it's still there, I'll have to check.

Thanks Bart. I just ordered the tall turret for my 6.5-284. It said I'd have range marks out to 1300 yards. Comparing their click settings to the Shooter ballistics program, they are very close.

Does the turret come with the screw on cap? I normally leave the cap off while I'm shooting but leave it covered for transport.

Couldn't find the tutorial video. If you find it, could you please post a link? Thanks again for the help.

Yes, it is an open turret. I will suggest if you don't have it already, either shim's or a 20 MOA base to reach the full potential of your scope at longdistances. Just thought I'd throw that in incase you didn't think of it?
To shoot past 600 yards this is almost a requirement.

Thanks Bart. I've already changed all my rifles over to the 20 or 40 MOA Picatinny bases. Even if I don't intend to use a rifle for long range, I like the rigidity and utility of the bases. And so far I haven't had a problem with any scope not being able to zero at close range.
