I see the "wasted" energy debate all the time. My question is how fast are the bullets exiting? If they are exiting at less than 500fps who cares? You are likely only wasting 300ft/lb of energy (bullet weight and velocity dependent of course). You are only "wasting" a small amount of energy that I would trade for an exit wound that will bleed better than an entry wound anyway. I am by no means an expert, but I have killed 20-25 animals, from whitetail to moose and black bear with the 165tsx out of my 300wsm and the 180gr tsx from a 325wsm, all were hit at under 100 yards. Most have exited, some with small caliber sized exit wounds, but upon a "autopsy" there was always massive damage to the heart/lungs. I have put them into a black bears upper leg bone from less than 30 yards and they broke the on side leg, off side leg and exited. I shot a whitetail doe with the 325/180 tsx from 25 feet last year, pinhole in pinhole out, lungs and heart destroyed, literally just poured out of the chest cavity. I pick my bullet/rifle combo by what is appropriate for the purpose of the rifle and what is the most accurate out of the individual rifle. Sometimes it the tsx, sometimes accubonds, sometimes the Berger VLD.
