To barrel block or not to barrel block

I have exactly the same action on a 338MOAG (338Lapua IMP) 36" 1.450 barrel. I have taken game or vermin out to 2144yds with this rifle, it has a 2 piece 9" aluminum barrel block. if you have a straight taper barrel a 2 piece block is the only way to go. BUT a barrel block from my experience even if it is aluminum seems to cause pre-mature throat eroasion. if you are playing with a 36" long barrel Fiftydriver say's it can be done without a barrelblock if you go to BAT's 2" reciever.
