I feel that the 7RM doesn't quite have the poop to launch the 160 TSX at adequate velocity to create the rotational velocity necessary to avoid upsetting angular momentum after hitting an animal. My hunting partner started with the 160 TSX (albeit factory loads) & we've seen some bullets do some pretty erratic stuff after hitting game. Basically, I'm saying that it might not be spinning fast enough to track straight through a big game animal, after entering an animal it seems as though the bullet starts to precess (wobble) & some of them end up in places they shouldn't be. These results were noticed quickly & we quit using the 160, he's using the 140MRX now with perfect results on deer sized game, we haven't gotten him on an elk yet.
Mike, 7mm Rem mag? I'd like to hear how the 160 TSX does for you, my experience hasn't been very good. Only what I can attribute to a translational & rotational velocity issue. I do think the "big" seven's can spit'em out fast enough to take care of the issues (theoretical or otherwise:D) I have noticed. Who knows, maybe my partner just got some bunk ammo & i've been thinking WAY too long about it lol To the OP: Sorry for hijacking on you, just started jabbering... the banded solid will work very well, but that lead time is ridiculous. Have you tried contacting Barnes directly? You can order straight from Barnes as well. If not, pick up the bullet weight & drop the velocity, that should provide you a dead 'yote without the claymore effect.
