I recently acquired a Browning A- Bolt in .270 with a BOSS. It really only has about 19 inches of usable barrel. Total barrel length is 21 1/4 from recoil lug to end of BOSS. Anyway, under the recommendation of a well known contributor here, I have been experimenting with 4064, and RL9, using 130 horn. Interlocks, and 140 Berger VLD's. With 49 grains of 4064 and a 130 interlock, I am getting 2923 ave.when I use 57.0 grains of RL19, and 140 VLD, 2889 average.Extreme spread was 88, ES was 32. Accuracy was very good at 200 yds. Just over an inch. With the 130 interlock, speed was 2923 ave. ES- 16, SD- 7 . Should I concentrate on the 140' or stay with the 130? I don't think I am going to get much more velocity. What do you think guys? (Derek, ?) Thoughts?

AIM SMALL, MISS SMALL. 7 STW. lightbulb. Thanks.:)

With my Browning 270 I have found IMR 4350 @58.5 g shoots the Hrday SST 130 in a group a dime will cover. My Browning doesn't have the boss system.

Also it likes the Berger bullet to.

We got well over 2900 fps with IMR 4831 and 130's from an 18" barrel, a bobbed factory Savage 110 barrel...

somewhere north of 58 grains IIRC...

I new up front that speed was going to be a issue, but my intent for this rifle is a lite carry, that I can use at some 200-300 yard fields that I hunt in Maryland. It IS extremely accurate, with what ever I have tried so far. I suppose if I can maintain good accuracy and go with a little faster powder, I should be ok. Do you like the 130 over the 140 or vice versa? Thanks for your input. P/ S, I have looked at your OCW tables many times. Ironically, some of your loads are ones that have worked well for me! Thanks again.

I don't work with the 270 a lot, but the 130's work very well of course. I have never used 140's... but 52 to 52.5 grains of IMR-4350 with 150 grainers is a good, long pile driving recipe. :) Don't know the velocity of that with a short barrel, though... probably in the 2650 range... good sectional density on a 150 grain bullet though... it doesn't need to be fast... sort of does what a 6.5x55 does with 140's, really... and that's sayin' a lot. :)

Got a long barrelled pistol for my daughter, Winchester Model 70 19" barrel with boss.

I found 51.3 grains of IMR 4064, CCI250, Winchester brass and 130 gr. Tipped TSX, gave me 3050 FPS. 1.25" three shot groups at 200 yards. Am happy with it and so is she.
